I was just outside of Oxford MS yesterday picking up some lawn tractor parts and noticed I had no cell service. My phone displayed "SOS" along with an icon of a satellite in the upper right corner of my iPhone 15 Pro Max running IOS 18. I launched text messages and was immediately prompted with a message asking if I wanted to connect via satellite. I confirmed the prompt and was able to send text messages. I don't know how long this has been active but its a nice option.
