cjevansSo, finally, the will he or won't he is put to rest. Now Alabama?
And not as an Independent as was tipped in 2016.
An instant threat to Uncle Joe?
An out of touch technocrat, plutocrat perhaps, versus a Scrantonite.
Wondering what his campaign slogan will be?
"Stop and frisk"?
He doesn't have a loyal following and progressives will ignore him.

fpuhanHe may be a credible candidate at first. He won't come across nearly as crazy as Plugs or Alfred E. Neuman, but after he starts in with his crap, I think his support will fall apart.

slosigI kinda wonder how that might go. The current crop of damaged goods that the Dims are looking at would make it very enticing to jump into the Dim primary, but I gotta believe anybody they field is going to have an insane uphill battle in the general. I also wonder what support he’d have from Dims. They are so fractured with the insane socialist branch and the less insane more establishment branch. Clearly he’d fit in the latter group and might appeal more to folks who are more centrist Democrats, but would he lose all the socialists?
I’d think if he really wanted to be president he’d wait until next election.
We definitely live in interesting times...

He's heard that for the last couple of elections - and he's 77. If he is getting in, I kinda tend to think he's actually planning on nudging the conversation in a direction he likes more and secretly hoping everyone else implodes and he can "pull a Trump".

bigdealAs much as it seems odd to say it, I think Bloomberg is far too conservative to gain any real traction with the current radical Dem party. And if he runs way left to try and pander to them, he kills his chances in the general election, assuming he even scored the Dem nomination. At a bare minimum, this move will really scramble the clown car Dem primary.

oddballTwo New Yorkers, Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani, will slap this guy around in a presidential campaign.

ChicagoSigManAll Bloomberg will do (if he even really decides to enter the race) is siphon votes from Biden, thus ensuring the nomination goes to a hardcore leftist/socialist. Trump wins.
He can't seriously believe that the Democratic Base, which is so far left that it can't even see halfway to the center, is going to throw its support behind a moderate/independent who is richer than nearly all the other billionaires they regularly demonize. Not gonna happen.
But if he wants to throw away a few hundred million on a vanity run that helps re-elect Trump, I'll be happy to hand out flyers for him.

220-9erDemocrats that aren't hard leftists, Rino's/never Trumpers and many others may find him an attractive candidate.
I see him as someone that will tank Biden's support.
He could emerge as the most credible of the Democrats or he could just really cause a real mess for them if the hard leftists rally around one of their own to counter him. Think McGovern on steroids.
He's right about one thing. The Democrats that are now running are not credible candidates in the general election unless Trump implodes.
Should be interesting if he follows through.

Rick LeeI just can't see Bloomberg filling arenas with supporters the way Trump does. I know that doesn't necessarily translate into electoral votes. But he's just not nearly as charismatic or bombastic as Trump. The Dems don't have enough buses or college Dems to fill them to get to Bloomberg rallies that will in any way compete with Trump's crowds.

wcb6092'Attempt to buy the presidency': 2020 Democrats slam looming Bloomberg bid
https://www.washingtonexaminer...ooming-bloomberg-bidDemocratic presidential candidates reacted with scorn, derision, and sarcasm to news that former New York City mayor and multibillionaire Michael Bloomberg is preparing to join the primary field in which they've been jockeying for most of the year.
The campaigns for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker fundraised off Bloomberg's entry into the race in emails sent to supporters Thursday night.
"We already have one self-funding billionaire in this race, and ... it looks like we just got another," Booker's campaign said in an email. "Michael Bloomberg will likely be spending millions of his own personal fortune to fund his campaign."
Also seeking the nomination is businessman Tom Steyer, who made a multibillion-dollar fortune in hedge funds.
The fundraising email from Warren's campaign identified Bloomberg as "one of the first billionaires to attack Elizabeth’s plan for a wealth tax," her proposal to levy a 2% surcharge on fortunes over $50 million to pay for universal healthcare, forgiveness of student loans, and an array of social programs.
"Let's call Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to buy the presidency for what it is: Yet another example of the wealthy wanting our government and economy to only work for themselves," Warren's campaign said. "When faced with the prospect of paying his fair share in taxes so that we can level the playing field for working families, Bloomberg has chosen to protect his wealth over everyone else — and that’s why he’d rather spend enormous amounts of money on a presidential run than pay taxes."
Warren also "welcomed" Bloomberg to the race in a tweet Thursday night by suggesting he consider her wealth tax if he is "looking for policy plans that will make a huge difference for working people and which are very popular."

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, who signed into law some of the strictest state campaign finance laws and is the only Democratic presidential candidate utilizing public financing, sarcastically tweeted: "Swell. Another billionaire thinking that the Democratic nomination is for sale."
Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney, a multimillionaire who has largely self-funded his presidential campaign, took a different tone than his primary competitors and countered a suggestion that people in the future would wonder why Bloomberg decided to launch a presidential bid rather than help an existing candidate.
"Or maybe they might ask 'why did we go down the path of even considering candidates that wanted to force the majority of the country to fundamentally change how they and their families receive healthcare coverage?'" Delaney tweeted.

When we look back at 2019, I think people will ask why the moderate rescue plan was a Bloomberg candidacy and not, like, Bloomberg giving $100 millon to a Booker super PAC.
