The recent thread with pictures of beautiful sunsets got me thinking. While I enjoy a nice sunset, for me there is nothing better than watching the sun rise in the morning. I cannot vote, because I love them both. I find sunsets are often prettier, but I enjoy the cool fresh air of morning in an equal and offsetting amount. I live in the woods -- buried under mature oak trees. I have nearly 2 acres and I don't even own a lawnmower, because not enough light reaches the ground. I have a mid century architect built home with a low slung roof and 36" eves. It's dark all of the time down here. There are some advantages to this, and I love it here for now, but I will retire to a home on the top of a hill. I am certain this is my goal.

For me a lot depends on where you are. Both can be beautiful, but at our current home the surrounding terrain favors sunsets, with the sun dropping into the ocean for a couple of months. I’ve been other places where the terrain made sunrises more impressive than sunsets. In any event, both are a bit of free natural beauty that is a blessing to enjoy.

I only see sunsets - I'm never up early enough to see sunrises, especially in summer. Sunrises are special, purposeful events for me. Like taking a special trip to a mountain top to watch the sunrise (in Japan, in Hawaii, etc). Don't they basically look the same? Just looking at a picture, can you tell if it's sunrise or sunset? Sunrise. “God let me have another day!” Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

Sunrises to me are work. Get up in the dark, get dressed, go to the spot, get the camera set up…and then it lasts about fifteen seconds. Sunsets speak softly that your day is ending. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

When ever my wife and I are on cruises I get the sunrise pictures. I am up before the but crack of dawn on the top deck of the ship right up front. Over the last 26 years I have gotten some incredible pictures. At one point I was even thinking about putting together a calender. My wife gets the sunset pictures. So I guess for me it's the sunrise. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Sunrise.Back when I would deer hunt I use to really love the sight of the sun coming up viewed from my tree stand. A new day that God has made. Now it is sitting on my back porch with my dog and a cup of coffee. Just another day in paradise.

Sunrises- looking east into Atlantic Ocean on the east Coast of NC. Wait for it! The sun just pops its head out and all life begins moving through the light. Exciting no matter how many times I’ve seen it. Sunset ; standing on the beach on Treasure Island on Gulf of America. Wait for it . The sun slowly moves into the water sinking slowly until there is a green flash of light as the amazing shades of color morph into darkness as all moving life settles down until morning light.

I worked many 2nd shift and 3rd shift hours at my last job before retirement. 3 to 4 years on each shift respectively. I'm pretty certain that working those shifts permanently screws up your internal circadian clock. I've never been a morning person, so about the only time I ever see sunrises is from my deer hunting stands. Now in retirement, if I absolutely have nothing that needs attention, I stay up until three or four in the morning. I've been burning the candle at both ends for the last week due to circumstances beyond my control. Today I slept in till 1:30 in the afternoon. No, I did not see the sunrise this morning. When I lived back East I loved sunrise, we boated in the Atlantic and nothing better than Sun coming up while heading out. Now that I live in the West I like the sunsets, the Sun is up for a while before it crests the mesa behind me. "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

Sunrise. Peaceful and quiet. Crisp air. Montauk in the winter is a favorite spot, standing on the beach with only a handful of people in sight.
