AITGDo you trust the oil life monitor in your vehichle?
I have gone by Fords' intelligent oil life monitor (IOLM) in the past but I always take oil samples for analysis. We just got an Escape with a turbocharged 2.0 engine. Gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engines are known to have fuel dilution issues across all the manufacturers and analysis shows it's over 5% at 3000 miles. However, the wear metals are extremely low so it's not harming anything. Yet. The lab I use is Horizon in Indianapolis - I usually get results in 24 hours.
I will change every 3000 miles even though the IOLM says the oil life is 65%.

SgtGoldThat makes sense because most Hondas are on a 10k oil change interval.

I thought that was quite strange. Especially since the monitor just hit 15% at almost 8000 miles. I told her to change at 5-6000 miles, like the original owner had done since new

pbslingerMy opinion of oil life monitors in general (since they aren't all the same) is that following them is penny wise but pound foolish. They may work well for getting you to a certain vehicle miles life for the least money, but they won't make the car last the longest that it is capable.

95flhrI don’t trust them. Oil changes are cheap insurance and I do them at 5000 miles.
