Here are a couple of good videos on the subject. With the title of Dave Canterbury's video, you might think it was made within the last couple of weeks, but it's from 18 months ago. Good advice about the basics of dealing with being stuck in your car or truck.

Ranger Survival and Field Craft is one of my favorite Youtube channels. Like Dave Canterbury, Andrew is a Pathfinder School instructor, in addition to being an active duty Army Officer.

If your vehicle breaks down in a remote area (especially in winter), stay near or in it. Its much easier to find a vehicle than to find someone on foot.

At a minimum in Winter, I keep two emergency space blankets, wool cap and gloves, multi-tool, etc. on trips. I have two of those survival kits in water bottles (with a camping utility knife in each) available. Almost needed such a kit in February '89 when caught suddenly in a snowstorm on I-95 but found a hotel quickly.

Because you would be carrying that on your persons. It’s not a requirement for surviving the elements when your car breaks down which I feel is the point of these videos.

Being stuck in the elements for an extended period of time doesn’t generally come with societal breakdown.

Now…surviving a break down in Chicago might warrant a different video.

If the weather is so bad that I’m needing equipment to survive the night in rural backwoods BFE, I doubt there are many out engaging actively in illegal shenanigans during said weather.

Rest easy, Dick. I promise you that both those guys have guns; quite a few, as a matter of fact.

But the subject matter is things you have stored in your vehicle.

The Canterbury series of videos are really good.

A while back I posted a video on a thread for vehicle go bags:

Sigforum Go Bags

"I never want to relinquish an opportunity to be Batman."

I was going to watch the video with the idea of finding fault with something in it, but after watching it I can't.... other than he did leave one item out:

here is mine which includes a TNW / ASR 9mm "rifle*" and Glock 17 (both use the same magazines)

*Originally I had the pistol version with 10" barrel and brace but I converted it to a regular 16" barrel with adjustable stock since the ATF dictate.
