Our handheld Shark died after about 2 years & a replacement battery costs almost as much as the vac itself.

Wife wants a new vac, but probably not a Shark, and don't really want to spring for a Dyson.

We have a Neato that does the whole house except bedrooms, so this would be for small cleanups & random dog fur.

Shark wv-201 has worked great for us. It was also top rated by Consumer Reports.

If you are already on the DeWalt 20v platform I would recommend one of these.

I have a Dyson V-6 Motörhead+. Quite happy with it. It’s pretty old (6years I think). Wife uses it daily. Literally. She’s a bit OCD and vacuums all the time. Replaced the battery ($22 on Amazon for three times the watt hours) and watched a YouTube video and tore it apart, cleaned it thoroughly, and reassembled.
Works like it’s brand new.

That Shark isn't bad, and nicely compact, just not sure if the capacity would be enough & require lots of emptying.

My power tools are Bosch, wouldn't want to switch over to Dewalt.

The Dyson is probably great, but sticker shock.

This ^^^ (And I’m generally not a fan of Dyson)

We also run a Roomba every day to deal with the dog hair. (I’m amazed that thing is still working after a couple years. Minor maintenance.)

I looked at all the small vacuums when my last Dustbuster bit the dust. I went with a 2.5 gallon mini Shop Vac. Unlike my high school GF, it really sucks. It is a little less convenient to use than a standard vacuum, but the performance cant be beat. Lots of attachments for it and bags and filters are pretty common.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have a DeWalt drill and leaf blower. This would make a nice addition.

No problem, I've had mine for awhile and love it. You can easily remove the flexible hose from the end and get into tight spots with it. Has a high quality filter that can be easily cleaned and reused.

I have used it with a 2 and 5 amp hour battery and both worked great.

Another thumbs up for this one. Its super handy. I use mine from the cleaning the car to cleaning the leaves out of the ridge vent on the roof.

Small and very powerful is my little Oreck XL. Its plug in, not battery. Got it for cleaning my Sienna van. Quite the surprise when I found it is as strong as most large machines. Does a beautiful job

I have a small Riccar vacuum, easily carried or strapped. I keep it in the garage mostly, for cleaning out the vehicles, but it is also very useful for hard to get places in the house. It is only about 15" long, but with a really long cord (15' - 20'). It comes with hose, tubes, crevice, floor, and brush attachments.

Dyson Stick, it's convertible to handheld with the press of a button, easy to clean, no bags, have plenty of power and tuck away easily.

If you look at Woot they constantly have refurb models or older models that keep the cost down, and was said before the only thing we've replaced is the battery which takes no time to do.

Coupled with a robotic vac which does wonders on keeping things tidy, ie dog hair, dust, under furniture, beds, etc. is the best method.

We hardly pull out the full size vacuum.

There are other cordless stick options, a couple on Woot right now, one $90.

Cordless stick with a robovac does the trick.

No votes for the robotic household vacs?

I don't have one, but I'm curious.

Roomba I7 here; works great for what it is. I can do it far faster by hand, but it runs every day for 90 minutes getting GSD hair constantly. Fairly amazed.

From the OP, we have a Neato that does the majority of the house, but we don't have it go into bedrooms/bathrooms & the handvac would be for those & whatever the botvac misses.

Interim, wife ordered a Black & Decker that was like $20, so we'll see how long it lasts then will explore the options posted here.
