A spokesperson with the Legislative Council Services said in December, the council voted to ban all weapons from the House gallery for all joint sessions of the legislature.

Well, that's reassuring. That will keep the nutjobs from bringing in guns! The Council has voted!!!

So yeah, get treated like the rest of us who are having our 2A stripped away while you endorse blue candidates. Reap it boys, take your sob story to someone who cares.

FYI: I'm sure most of those sheriffs are elected in "Red" counties and support the 2nd Amendment as much as you do. As to Scott Israel and the coward that did nothing while kids were being shot in Parkland High School: While cops aren't mandated by law to protect any particular individual, they are sworn to provide such services. This doesn't mean they all meet their moral obligation to do their duty and the two examples you provide show some don't. In any case; Israel's cowardly deputy was suspended and quit before he could (and should) have been terminated, while Israel was properly removed from office and replaced by the governor. I know this is too little/too late, but as I've always said: Citizens get the kind of police they deserve.

The BS which passed for policing in Broward county was allowed by the electorate to continue for years, until it was exposed for what it really was to the nation after the deaths of those kids. Israel's buying in to the notion that providing an illusion of safety and letting juveniles avoid entry into the justice system was in any way an example of responsible "law enforcement" was fraudulent and he's not alone among those who still endorse such policies. California voters have elected a "super-majority" of legislators and a governor who promote enacting laws of the same ilk, even as crime rates skyrocket and offenders realize they can pretty much do as they please without suffering negative consequences.

While I find it disgusting that some New Mexico voters have chosen legislators with similar "ideals" as found in urban California districts, I'm certainly not going to fault the NM sheriffs who were selected by constituents that knew better and chose more wisely. In all probability they had little or nothing to do with the election of the representatives who enacted this policy. Putting roadblocks in their way to endorse better legislation helps silence their voices and those who elected them.

The answer for the typical leftist anti-gun nut is usually the same. If it stops just one instance of it happening then it is worth it. Stupidity x 100!!

And this is where the mental illness, and/or wanting to be dictators comes in. If you posit the opposite, if a person with a gun saves one life...., they will start throwing all types of derogatory descriptions at you.

They will not listen to logic. They are only interested in what THEY want, not what is best for our country.

New Mexico went seriously blue in the last election. I think we are seeing the beginning of of anti-gun momentum in the state. The new governor wants stricter gun laws. The state House and Senate are overwhelmingly Democrat so they will go for it. Going to be wild ride.

That's right. Make the capitol a gun free zone like Stoneman Douglas high school.

Santa Fe and the northern surrounding areas are the issue. Most of the rest of the state is fairly conservative.

You can see the influence in other ways, too. I can only carry one gun with a permit, no backup. I’m also limited to the caliber I used to qualify or smaller.

The people of New Mexico got the government they voted for...... I realize everybody in New Mexico didn't vote for them, but enough of the voters did. Reminds me of the people that live in NJ, NY, CA, CT, MA, IL and every other democrat strong hold as the voters can't believe the politicians voted a certain way....but you knew what you voted for and if you didn't "realize" what they stood for, STOP BEING A SHEEPLE!

Who are you preaching to? You think somebody like Virus voted these clowns in?!? My assumption would be that those who voted these people in, got the government they voted for, and members of this Forum from New Mexico have to deal with it or move.

Yep, just about ready to plan a move. Today the commie governor wants to make New Mexico a sanctuary state. And she's just getting started.

Move where?
Conservatives keep on saying they're gonna move every time liberals move-in. When's the time when conservatives start moving into liberal havens and start influencing those areas? At some point (we're getting close), there's gonna be more liberal areas than conservative areas, liberals will tip the scales and the laws we don't like are gonna get shoved down everyone's throat. You're gonna have to stand and fight.

I sure as hell didn’t vote for those assholes. I’m also fairly certain that the folks who did knew exactly how their new politicians would vote.

Voter turnout in NM was 55.6% in November. That is a major part of the issue.

I am not defending this idiotic move in any way.

However, to this specific point- it is the same way here in NM wrt residents being armed in the Capitol building, according to the actual construction of the laws.

I believe the "vote to ban guns" during a joint session of the legislature is in direct conflict with this state's constitution.
