I took a 45 min drive yesterday to the LGS. Overhead, the sky was clear. Blue sky-fluffy white clouds but no airplanes. It reminded me of the post 9/11 skies. The LGS is on the approach path to the airport. In southeastern CT -I should be seeing planes along the Atlantic coast-air traffic to Boston and NYC. No planes...

The reverse of this is I have noticed a marked increase in the amount of general aviation traffic coming and going from our little county airport down the road a ways. Lots of folks taking the opportunity to get out for a couple hours it would seem.

165 aircraft in the NE corridor on a Sunday morning:

Perhaps the atomospheric conditions were such that contrails in the flight levels weren't visible? There's no doubt passenger and aircraft traffic is down. However, there are still a lot of aircraft flying, these days.

With the start of the spring/summer seasonal winds, our home sits west of the downwind, south of the base and east of the final for our local airport. We don't have tons of commercial traffic here but yesterday my wife and I sat on the deck for 2 hours and I didn't notice a single jet fly the pattern. I enjoy watching them circle our house.

Here in Martinsburg, at least I get to see Globemasters doing circuits around the Air National Guard base fly over the house. Funny how despite how BIG these things are, how quiet they seem compared to commercial craft.

I wondered if the "chem-trail" people have had clearer thinking? Maybe the need for tin foil hats is lessened with reduced air traffic, too.

I've been checking Flight Aware several times a day for the last month or so, mainly just because I like aviation and want to see whats going on.

Last night at one particular time there was not even One commercial airplane moving across Oklahoma. There was 1 general aviation and several helicopters and those were all most likely medevac helicopters. Since Oklahoma is pretty much smack dab in the middle of the country there used to be a lot of commercial planes overhead all the time.

Anchorage is now the busiest airport not just because of cargo (cargo to-from Asia), you have to consider the biggest passenger airports such as Atlanta, O'Hare, JFK etc have a fraction of the passengers now as compared to pre-covid conditions.

There are numerous aviation websites, I have been using Link To Flight Aware. You can zoom in/out, move around the globe, and enter a particular airport to see what's going on. Enter yours and see whats up.

I think there are other similar websites that allow you to filter things, such as flights above 30,000 feet, plane types, a particular tail number, etc.

Anchorage is a technical (refueling) stop for traffic in and out of Asia. Right now, Shanghai and Incheon have a lot of traffic, and the only stuff moving in Hong Kong are cargo aircraft. All of Cathay's aircraft are parked on the passenger side.

Miami, Chicago, Louisville, Memphis, Los Angeles, Ontario, and other cargo hubs are busy, with a lot of movement of medical supplies and equipment, as well as commercial cargo, mail, etc.

Most of those whom I work with or know are timing out, meaning they're flying the maximum hours that are legally allowed. Long haul trips that might have used three or four crew are down to two, and fatigue is a real issue right now.

Bendable, this is a link to ADS-B Exchange. It is real-time air traffic utilizing the ADS-B radios/transponders that every aircraft has in it (as of January 2020).

Warning: it can be habit-forming.
