How do you know some rebel group did not do it? Seems like they would have more to gain,by having it blamed on Syria or Russia.

I don't trust the news media anymore, and this happened as Trump is trying to leave Syria.

I'd bet that we have a real good idea where they came from.

I'd also bet that something else in Syria is going to boom pretty soon.

Because Assad has used Sarin many times in the past, and it is Sarin that chemically matches the gas we knew Assad has.

Do you really think the rebels would gas their own people just for publicity value?

There is little doubt this is the Syrian government.

I wonder if Assad got a green light from Putin for the chemical attack, or if he's trying to drag his allies in Moscow and Teheran into a tougher stance that will allow him to strike more aggressively? Russia and Iran are screaming that this is all a pretext for Trump to intervene militarily, but there's no evidence that the attack was faked or a pretext for anything. At the same time, if rebels were responsible for this, why does the Assad government have the area shut off from all observers? The easiest thing in the world to do would be to show that the gas was delivered by some method that would be within the rebels' abilities rather than by some method that points directly back to Assad.

Trump says he wants out of Syria and the next day there's a chemical weapons attack? Who benefits from it?

Trump's announcement or the attack? If Assad figured Trump was desperate to get out, then he would have no reason to not launch a chemical attack - and Zippy taught Assad that Americans are by definition desperate to find ways out of conflicts.

In a perfect world, Syria's neighbors would go-in, over-throw Assad and install a more favorable government. Problem is, Jordan to the South has their handful with their own insurgents, and Turkey to the North doesn't play well with others, and they always have an ulterior motive.

It won’t happen but the neighbor with the most at stake is Israel.

The Syrian Army has surrounded the place and won't let outside medical and relief workers in to help the victims or see anything that could be evidence.
That tells you everything you need to know.

Yes I have no doubt whatsoever that Syrian rebels would gas their own people to gain the upper hand against Assad. The rebels are no better than Assad and have the most to gain.

The symptoms reported by the medicos is more consistent with chlorine gas.

The medical reports I saw are of people having a strong smell of chlorine. None of the nerve agents have that as a odor. The rest of the symptomology is also consistent with chlorine gas exposure.

If I here differently, I'll let the hive know.

Islamists are known for using aid causes as a shield. Much like Israel dealing with Hamas, why would a sovereign country let anyone and everyone go help isis?

Did they do it? Don't know and don't have the facts.

Would they do it?

I say Yes as well.

Syria’s state-run news agency says the military’s air defenses have confronted a missile attack on air base in central Syria and shot down eight missiles.

The report on SANA says the attack on the T4 military airbase in Homs province “is likely to be an American aggression.”

However, U.S. officials tell The Associated Press that the U.S. has not launched airstrikes on Syria.

SANA says the attack resulted in a number of casualties.

The report comes after a suspected poison gas attack killed at least 40 in the eastern suburbs of Damascus, the last foothold for the Syrian opposition in the area.

President Donald Trump has promised a “big price to pay” for the suspected chemical attack.

Israel has also struck inside Syria in recent years.

___

12:30 a.m.

The U.N. Security Council is planning to meet in emergency session on Monday to discuss a suspected poison gas attack in the eastern suburbs of Damascus, the last foothold for the Syrian opposition.

Opposition activists and local rescuers say at least 40 people died, including families found in their homes and shelters. The Syrian government is denying the allegations, calling them fabrications. But human rights groups and U.N. officials say the tactic amounts to forced displacement, a war crime

International condemnation has followed the reports. Netherlands Foreign Minister Stef Blok says that an immediate investigation is needed to break the pattern of impunity and that the Security Council must act.

In the U.S., President Donald Trump blames Syrian government forces and warns there will be a “big price to pay.”

___

11:15 p.m.

Sen. John McCain says President Donald Trump “emboldened” the Syrian government to commit a suspected chemical attack on its people by signaling last week that the U.S. planned to withdraw its troops from the country.

The Arizona Republican said Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad and his Russian and Iranian supporters heard Trump and, “emboldened by American inaction, Assad has reportedly launched another chemical attack against innocent men, women and children.”

Opposition activists and rescuers say Saturday’s attack in Douma killed at least 40 people. Assad’s government has denied responsibility.

McCain says Trump “responded decisively” last year by targeting a Syrian air base with cruise missiles after a poison gas attack. McCain urged Trump to respond decisively again to “demonstrate that Assad will pay a price for his war crimes.”
