You are doing the smart thing. Choosing someone to cut into your eyes with a laser, is not the time to go with the low bidder.

I had mine done in 1999 and have no regrets.

If you have any retina specialists in your area, it would be wise to make an appointment. If you have eye trouble later on, being a prior patient may get you in faster.
My Doc also said no up till the time he said yes I should go for IOL's. Should have got a different opinion. I am -11

I have a question for you. You said, Restasis for a year. Did I read this correctly?

I was told that once I started Restasis, it would be a lifetime commitment. I have been using it for a few years, now.
Yes, you read it correct. Most likely our situations are/were apples and pears.

I was in my mid-30s and temporarily had a post-surgery dry eye condition compounded by taking both an allergy pill and flonase. Due to dryness, cells in my eye were dying faster than new ones were replacing them which resulted in temporary dead spots in my vision. Switching to 1 allergy medicine, taking restasis, using Systane drops during the day, and using Refresh gel before bed was my routine for a while. I quickly turned the corner on cells being replaced as fast as they died so the dead spots went away. Hay fever season ended and the eyes continued to heal leading to discontinuing the gel, later discontinuing the restasis, and finally discontinuing the Systane. Had several years of awesome vision after that ordeal.

Anyone here had experience with cataract surgery after having Lasik surgery? I had Lasik surgery then about four years later developed an early onset cataract in one eye (unrelated to the Lasik surgery). Had a terrible experience. Was told by the docs (got second opinion) that since my cornea had been reshaped by the Lasik surgery they had to “guess” what strength lens replacement I needed. Ended up getting lens replacement, vision was way off, and has Lasik again to try to correct the vision, with moderate results.

Had LASIK in 2004 and cataracts done in 2016. The only concern with the cataracts was the laser had to be used instead of a knife. There were no issues with my vision.

The cataract procedure was a well oiled team. Padded chair for meds and vitals. Move to a gurney configured as a chair, then reconfigured to a bed. Into surgery, spun a bit. Time with the doctor, then out to recovery.

I would second this advice by oldbill123. I am "only" a -7.00 and had a retinal detachment after a cataract surgery where the IOL fell out of place and was re-positioned.

Being highly myopic greatly increases your chances of retinal detachment, especially after an injury or eye surgery.

Well, based on this thread I'm having my eyes done tomorrow. In hindsight, I might not have scheduled it on "Friday the thirteenth", but I'm not superstitious.

If you are familiar with Demolition Ranch (YouTube Gun Channel) and his vlog channel “Off The Ranch”, his wife recently had laser surgery, and he documented it all in a video. It’s a good watch. She is about your age.
