A friend sent me this video. The guy is Dave Asprey, described by Men’s Health as a “lifestyle guru.” He’s a Silicon Valley type who markets yet another diet called The Bulletproof Diet.

This is the header attached to the video:

“Not only does daily EMF exposure reduce sleep quality and make you more likely to be depressed, a study found that EMF exposure decreases your melatonin – the hormone that helps you fall asleep and stay asleep.

So having your phone next to you, if it’s not on airplane mode, will wreck your sleep.”

I think we’ve all heard that the radio frequency radiation from cell phones may present some health risks, and for quite a long time I’ve heard that, if you can, speakerphone is better than holding the phone up to your ear. That men shouldn’t carry their cell phone in the front pocket of their pants, that kids, in particular, may be at increased risk if they begin using cell phones at a young age.

This business about not having a phone near your bed a night is a new one. My wife bought us charging stations about a year ago and both our phones and watches are on the nightstands next to our bed.

There’s controversy about the potential harm of cell phones, yet warnings persist. Almost unconsciously, when at home, I talk on speaker, so I obviously have some reservations about the non-ionizing radiation from a phone. What do you think about all this? Concerned? Not at all concerned? Like me, not really concerned but…

I'm not concerned. Even you avoid cell phones, you live in modern American society. Unless you live in BFE, you are likely bathed in all sorts of electromagnetic radiation and various types of signals all the time.

EMFs are all around us, but the effect varies with the square of the distance from the emitter. Years ago I was using a cell phone 500 min/month with it held up to my ear. After 3-4 months of this I developed significant concentration problems.

Now I am back to normal, but it was a definite scare.

I always use speaker phone when talking or bluetooth in the car. I never hold it up to my ear. Like you though, it is on my nightstand at night while I sleep and I use a sleep app every night. That is also my alarm, though I almost always wake before it goes off. Maybe I'll give it a rest at night and see if I sleep better.

Oh, you use Bluetooth?

That's a shame.

Because according to the lifestyle guru I saw on social media who I could tell was probably trustworthy, Bluetooth decreases serotonin, causes erectile dysfunction, and a study has shown a direct correlation with leprosy.

(Luckily, if you like and subscribe to his videos, buy his books, and purchase a monthly subscription meal plan to his innovative and life-changing diet system, you can reverse those effects...)

You people make my ass twitch.

Or maybe it's the cell phone in my back pocket...

I leave my phone on my headboard and I sleep great. Every night. Then again, I don't have a $100 haircut and a YouTube channel, so what the fuck do I know?

If I’m out and about walking, at stores, etc, my phone is on airplane mode with Bluetooth and WiFi off.

While driving, everything is on so my vehicle can access all connections - internet, Bluetooth, and WiFi. I have wired Apple CarPlay, but sometimes I’m not plugged in.

At home, I’m on airplane mode with Bluetooth and WiFi on.

Also, I use speaker instead of holding phone to my head. I am always concerned about EMF, so I limit it where I can.

I know someone who developed cancer from using Bluetooth. I had not seen him in a year, and he now had a huge scar on his neck. He knew there was a problem when he realized that his neck was buzzing when he was using Bluetooth with his cell phone.

He had his checked, there was cancer, and the surgeons removed most of the cervical lymph nodes on one side.

Sounds like chicken/egg to me.

Did BT really cause the cancer or was the cancer there and reacted to BT allowing it to be diagnosed?

Given the prevalence of BT, if it was causing cancers I think that connection would be pretty obvious by now.

RF at cellular band frequencies is in a huge Frequency window that lacks the ionizing characteristics that would cause genetic damage. You go well into THz before the radiation is unsafe at 1W power levels(your microwave is 1000x that, which is why it can heat water).

Microwave energy can heat you at power levels well above the 2W radiated max levels imposed on consumer devices, but it can't scramble DNA.

If you are worried about ionizing radiation, you get radiated in much greater orders of magnitude, in comparison, when you fly on an airplane or get an X-ray.

I can't argue that there are no subtly negative interactions beyond the ionization issue, but I've gone on to worry about other things. Like finding food that isn't full of pesticides or hazardous chemicals. Now THAT shit, WILL give you cancer.

I used to sleep with my phone charging right next to my head on the nightstand when I slept.
I have now moved it across the room to charge at night.

I used to wake up numerous times a night now I rarely wake up.

Anecdotal I know but it’ll stay on the other side of the room.

I recall years ago there was concern about people that lived near high voltage power lines run a risk from the EMF from them.

No. There's so much EM radiation all around us at every hour of every day there's no escaping it. Placing it a few feet further away doesn't do anything about the towers that get a signal to it in the first place, not to mention WiFi that's on even in airplane mode or throughout your house from your router anyway.

You can know enough to be scared, or you can know a little bit more and not worry.

This is the reason I turn off the sun for about half the day, reducing my EMF exposure.
