jljonesThe word hero is thrown around like confetti these days to anyone who can catch a baseball or score a basket. LT Murphy is a true American hero. Likely it was juveniles that did this. And with juvenile justice being what it is these days I don’t have high hopes on any true “justice” in this.
Totally ok with Marcus Luttrell finding them instead.

The circular stone memorial was shattered into fragments. The park was dedicated on May 7, 2006, on what would have been Murphy's 30th birthday. Murphy was awarded teh Medal of Honor for his actions.
The Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park in Lake Ronkonkoma was vandalized on Thursday. Following an investigation the boy was arrested at his home at 3 a.m. this morning.
The teen was charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree. He was scheduled to be arraigned at Family Court on a later date. His name was not released and it was unclear if he had a lawyer.
The shattered memorial was removed on Friday morning. Governor Cuomo had previously said the state would pay to replace the memorial.

Perhaps it was just random vandalism as some young teens are wont to do. Either way, he picked the wrong memory to screw with, but he'll surely know now who Lt. Mike Murphy is in short order no doubt.

I would wager not likely, he was one year old when Murphy paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Like the kid squeezing multiple toothpaste tubes or, poking the meat through the plastic in the butcher aisle, he and some friends likely were screwing around, what ever they used, discovered it could break the stone on the memorial, and ended up destroying it with gleeful enthusiasm. Now, he's got a record and that gleefulness will turn sour and the harsh reality that you can't get away with things as you get older.

Although it would have been unthinkable for me or one of my friends growing up to do this, I'd have feared the repercussion from my father far more than law enforcement. Where's the kid's father in all this?
