After several Vegas trips, Bahamas, and a cruise I'll give up $200 on a 3 day trip which I consider good for a vacation.
Same pattern every single time, win $500 first night, give up most of that on 2nd night, on the 3rd night go negative $200 and stop. I have a good time over the 3 nights. 3 to 5 years later I'll do it again.
I have a few SIGs.

I had a coworker who went to a nearby casino at least once or more a month. Incredibly, he and his wife won at least several hundred dollars every time, and they often won thousands in one night. All of this winning was of course, quite impossible. So I imagine that lying about winning money turned into his favorite Monday morning pastime.

And every time lost what I started out with, usually in the neighborhood of $40. Never dug deeper.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Used to go to Vegas for CES or Comdex way back since the 70/80/90's. The first time I went, I was like a kid in a candy store and did a little gambling but how much can you do it as a kid with not so much money? After a few years, it became apparent with the little voice would tell me "you are going to lose" and just quit doing it.
The wife and I went years ago to Vegas to renew our vows and to say we have been there/vacation. We didn't gamble but enjoyed the restaurants, walking around and seeing the hotels and then going to the outskirts with the canyons and hiking. I was amazed at how close the casinos are to one another. I did see some people who did not make out so well gambling, but we actually made out pretty well... at the buffets, .
I'm one of those people who sets an upper spend limit, usually around $300, and when it's gone it's gone. I expect to lose it, my goal is just to make it last as long as I can.
However the last time I gambled- a long time ago- was in Reno for the big gun show. On the way out of the hotel, I decided to throw some coins at the nearest slot machine. Won $300, as did the guy sitting next to me. Literally paid for the whole weekend.
I saw 46and2 and said WTF? Is he back on the forum after that explosive exit? Nope. Some loser, scamming bumped the thread.
As far as OP, I’ve gambled once with my own money. Turned 21. Friends wanted to take me to Casino in Bossier City. Closest Casino to my hood at the time. I was decent at BlackJack. We get there, I get a beer, and start playing. I’m up $150 within 45 minutes. I get up, go find my friends, and say “I’m done.” I wanted to leave, got hit a bar, club, find some women, etc. They were adamant that we just got there and they wanted to gamble. I ended up gambling some more. Lost that $150, then another $150 of my own money. On the drive back my friends were excited. One won $100, the other maybe $150. I was the loser and I was pissed. I vowed to never gamble again and haven’t to this day. That was 30 years ago.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Had a coworker that went to the Casino almost every weekend. On the rare Monday morning he was in a good mood, we would eventually hear about his monumental victory at the poker table Saturday night.
Vegas is definitely a wild experience—there’s so much energy, the lights, the people, and yeah, the casinos are something else. I’ve been a few times, and honestly, the first time I gambled there, it was a bit overwhelming. It's super easy to get caught up and overspend before you even realize it.
If you’re new to gambling, starting out in Vegas might not be the best idea because it’s high stakes, loud, and distracting. I’d recommend trying out some basics first to get a feel for it. For example, you could start by playing some slot machines on bestgame.org bestgame.org. It’s a good way to understand how the games work and test strategies without the intense environment. That way, when you do go to Vegas, you’ll know your way around a bit better and can have a more enjoyable time. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Phelen_Kell,

This. Gambling is such a waste of time/money. The food is where it’s at in Vegas.

I have gambled in a casino once. I played $2 blackjack, and lost about $40 in an hour or so. That was all it took to convince me to not do that again.
I have a buddy who is smart, and a CPA even. He used to like to go to casinos and swears he had a winning "system." Much as I like the guy, I don't get this blind spot.
