Generally if it's an order at the counter and pick up your food at the counter type of thing I don't tip (sub shops, chipotle style places etc.). If they bring the food to the table after you order etc. Then yeah I'll tip a little. At full service restaurants I tip a standard 20%, sometimes more, rarely less.

That being said, if I go into a sub shop and need 4-6 sandwiches with a myriad of different toppings and the person making them is quick and goes out of their way to get it right and in a proficient manner, then I will tip.

Having the option on the credit card machine doesn't bother me, as it's an option and not mandatory.

We do not eat out often. And almost never at a place we do not know to some degree. unless traveling of course. Rarely fast food.

Generally will tip, not fast food. But everything else to a degree. I have received things in my life that I did not earn persae. So being blessed, returning the favor seems like a good thing to do. Sometimes what you do, has a positive impact on others. Which is something we should all strive to do imho.

I have a few places I frequent where I see the same faces all the time - I'll put a buck and whatever coin change is generated by the sale in the tip jar. At one, they recognize my voice and call me by my name when I call in an order. I don't expect or get extras, but still like the goodwill aspect of it for friendly people I have ongoing contact with.

At a lot of restaurants, when paying by credit card, the card charge slip has a little section toward the bottom to help the arithmetic-impaired folks. They show the tip amount for 15%, 18%, and 20%.

Problem that I see with this, is the calculation is done on the post-tax total. Nope, I am not going to tip the governor. He's already taking my money. I calculate the tip based on the pre-tax subtotal.

Yep, one of my pet peeves. If you point this out the manager you are more likely than not to get the deer in the headlights stare.

Depends on the place. There's a BBQ place in central Orlando we go to where I'll tip a few bucks. They take our order at the counter, bring our food to the table and re-fill our drinks for us.

Even did so at a little Chinese restaurant a couple weeks ago. Ordered at the counter, left $2 and the girl brought our food out along with our drinks.

I hate tipping. I don't understand it. Although when I do tip, it's likely on the generous side - I tend to overtip than undertip.

One thing that gets me is hotel stays where breakfast (buffet) is included. I get my own food. The food is included in the room rate. Sometimes they bring me coffee, sometimes I get coffee myself. Do I tip? For what? For busing my dishes? I try to see what other do. Sometimes people leave something (not sure how much). Many people leave nothing. I hate tipping.

Manager probably has nothing to do with it. I'll bet it's generic software supplied by the credit card processor.

I tip at a sit down resterant unless the service is crap. I mean the servers actual service not they are busy and can't get my food in 2 minutes. Do they get it right, are they personable, do they know the menu, can they recommend things, can they explain what something is without making me look stupid etc. Baseline is a few dollars but more for something really good.

Fast food is no tip unless something extraordinary happens.

Really I think we overtop and set a standard of accepting bad service. It supposed to be extra to acknowledge good service not every single person gets one. Just my thoughts. I will tip a
