For those in the Fort Worth/North Texas area.
During WWII Lake Worth near Fort Worth made a contribution to the war effort. I’ve seen the lake many times, but couldn’t imagine what it would look like with 200 PBYs on it. Link

Very interesting story. I’ve lived in the area for a long time and didn’t know anything about that. Thank you for posting the link.
On a side note, the lake just north of Lake Worth, Eagle Mountain Lake, has an interesting WW11 history with the Navy and Marines. Part of that history includes the development of a shallow water torpedo for the US after Pearl Harbor.

Cool posting... Lived here my whole life and didn't know about this. My Dad was an engineer (ex Army Air Force)at the CV (GD and later Lockheed) plant after the war. He moved us from Los Alamos NM to Fort Worth and took a new position at the bomber plant.

Thank you for posting this interesting bit of history.

A most interesting article. I forwarded it to a friend in Dallas.

I haven't seen Lake Worth, in ages. Just too many people here now. So many have moved from various places but especially California. Makes driving from one side of the metroplex to the other an exercise in futility. Lake Worth, Goat Island, a memory now.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Very interesting. I've lived in Dallas now for 39 years but have never been to Lake Worth.

Slightly off topic but, there used to be a B36 in that lake.

Just short of the runway.

This is how people referred to in the area when I was growing up. Some even into the General Dynamics era.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

A friend attended an elementary school that was in the flight path to Carswell. Everyone in her class would scream at the top of their lungs as a C-124 was taking off, but no one could hear them over the noise. She said it was fun was to watch the faces of substitute teachers as the image of a 124 filled the windows behind them. They really got a kick one day when a substitute teacher threw herself one the floor in terror.
