I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2021 GMC Canyon crew cab pickup. I've looked at and test drove many 4 door pickups as I could in my limited time. I've considered just about all trucks and have settled on this due to price, options and size. The trim package is the Elevation model.

Any current owners with advice as to what I can expect from this vehicle is appreciated. I realize that most happy customers rarely rate their trucks for review sites and the ones who are unhappy shout it from the highest antenna. Who owns one or has had experience with this truck? What kind of reliability can I expect from this truck? What are the must have options or accessories that I should consider? Thanks in advance.

Coworker has a 2wd crew cab 2016 Colorado with >90k on it.
Only expenses he's had outside gas & oil was a set of tires & a couple driver windows (break ins).

No issues that have needed dealership service.

I bought a Chevy Colorado in 2016. Crew cab, long bed, 4x4,V6 gas, automatic. pretty much loaded.
I had owned mainly Japanese vehicles for the last 30 years or so and was very biased towards them.
So was skeptical about my Colorado. Now, 55,000 miles later, I've become a fan. Always reliable, had to replace a taillight bulb twice, nothing else. Adequate power (for my uses, not a powerhouse),very quiet, smooth "car-like" ride . Average ~ 20mpg of combined city and high way. I use cruise control a lot. It just runs....no problems , no squeaks or rattles. I'd buy another.
Hope this helps. mike

My 2017 Colorado had transmission problems at 22k. It shuttered and sounded like I was driving on rumble strips. Googled it and it was a well known problem, but no recall. Went to the dealership and was told they have a new transmission fluid that solved it.The maintenance guy said he had to check to see if he had any on hand as he had been changing other trucks. It did work and now I have 45 on it. It does clunk like hell when I put it in reverse though.

I did hear something about the six speed transmission having issues. The 2021 version has an eight speed now. I think that most of the transmissions are standardized now. At least I hope they fixed the issues. The truck seems to fill multiple roles very well. I'm getting the upgraded stereo system and spray-in bedliner with a tonneau cover. The only other mods that I'm considering is the front level kit and changing out the halogen headlights with leds.

The eight speed transmission has been around since 2017. I have a 2019 Colorado, Redline Edition, with the 3.6. The trans shudder hit me at around 8000 miles. I called the dealer and they did the complete transmission flush under warranty and it has been fine ever since.

This is without a doubt the nicest truck I have ever owned and I've owned quite a few of them. I'm getting 22 mpg and I have all the power I will ever need. It will also tow my tractor around wherever I need to go.

Your 2021 Canyon will have the new fluid. Buy it and enjoy the hell out of it. Smile

2019 Colorado LT, 3.6, 308 hp, 8 speed auto, 4X4, crew cab. Same trans fluid issue. Fixed under tech service bulletin warranty, no issues since. Great truck, fun to drive, very good gas mileage. Added LineX bed liner and soft 3 fold tonneau cover. Dealer added step bars and a set of Chevy version of Weathertech floor liners.
