What's more fun than going to the range?

HawkeyeJohnWhat's more fun than going to the range?
Well,
almost more fun (and excluding sex of course)!
I have to plug my choice - "IL-2 Sturmovik". There's a BIG sale on a fantastic WW2 flight simulator. It's not just a history lesson - IT'S A BLAST!
https://il2sturmovik.com/store/battle-of-stalingrad/You'll need some horsepower to run this software and a joystick and it's best with a good VR headset.
It's almost as much fun as going to the range and (even considering the expense of a new rig, a joystick and a VR headset) in the long run - a lot cheaper.
I'm kinda conserving bullets right now. Might actually need them someday . . .

bozmanHawkeye John...
I used to be a huge flight simmer, but just cannot get into IL-2.
I was very into the online multiplayer game called Warbirds. Was a member of a historically based squad (VF 101) and would fly missions with my squad mates 2 times per week. Then there were also larger events that recreated major offensives in WWII (air campaigns).
The company that developed/ran the sim began introducing new pricing models and things went South quickly. Used to be several "arenas" open at once simulating different theaters of WWII. 300-500 pilots in at least one of the arenas (if not multiple arenas) during primetime.
Now, nothing.
Was a great time. We also had a guy in our squad at the time that actually was a pilot on Guadalcanal (he was in his late 80's and was a hoot to "fly" with).
Since then I have been out of siming... However, I did get out all of my control gear and will be jumping into Microsoft Simulator 2020 once released. While I have my Stick, Yoke, Throttle and Rudders out, I may try DCS as well.

CliffA buddy of mine back on the east coast tried to get me interested in golf. He's a shooter also, just pistol. I tried it. Twice. Nope. Not for me. The two times we were on the golf course, I was thinking about rifle trajectory's. A day at the range, pistol first, then rifle. Long shots 600 yds plus. I would bring lunch, cigars, and a small tin of bourbon for sipping on the back of the truck after everything is packed up. Haven't found a good outdoor range like that here in the midwest yet. Still looking. Those were GREAT times.

You'd be in good company then, Cliff.

HawkeyeJohn,
Will this run fine on a Windows 10 machine?

Depends more on the hardware in the machine than the software, honestly. Do you know what kind of specs you’re working with? Chances are good that if you didn’t buy it or build it to be a gaming machine, at best, it might be a struggle to run IL2. I haven’t played it in years, but I do recall having sub-par performance with my (then) poor-man’s budget PC.

P220 SmudgeYeah, I would say he's probably good to go. It's been a looooong time since I played IL2, but I would think those specs should reasonably handle pretty much any game. That's better than what I'm running, and my machine handles current stuff just fine, albeit perhaps not with all settings fully maxed out.
