deepoceanSince the Subject of Haiti has been tossed about..
It is heartbreaking there are 430,000 orphans there. I had no idea jobs were so scarce and incomes so low in Haiti.

GWbikerSouth Korea in the 50's was a "Shit Hole". I was there for 13 months. Got around 6 or 8 vaccination's prior to being sent there to help keep me from catching some weird shit. Local crops being fertilized with human feces. Questionable water quality. Orphans everywhere.
Look at South Korea today. Transformed from one of the poorest nations in Asia into a stable Democracy with an advanced high technology economy in the trillion dollar class.
It's the people themselves that made it happen...along with help from the USA, of course.
Meanwhile, Haiti will always be a shithole no matter how much money we pour into it.

I think that is the whole crux of the issue, the people deciding and making their country good. You don't flinch as bad if you see that and democracy happening with the United States help.
But to pour money for decades and not even a slight advancement pisses you off.

Sig209Was deployed there with the 82nd ABN in 1996.
