Don't believe a word of it.
The Clintons and their foundation have turned Haiti into a paradise.
They wanted to do the same for all of us.
Alas, the evil orange man stopped them.

The name "Haiti" is derived from "Hades." No, not kidding. The country is actually named after Hell. "Modern" Haitian Creole has a different word for "Hell," but only to differentiate it from the one they're already in.
In other Creole trivia, the word for "white" is "blan." A white dude is "Blan." Actually, the whole freakin' country is so beaten-down-poor and hopeless that ANY foreigner is referred to as a "blan." Idi Amin? Blan. Jesse Jackson? Blan. Obama? Blan.

Did you even read what's at the link?
This is the very first thing you read:
Native Haitians were pre-Columbian Amerindians called Taíno, “the good people.” The Taíno named their land “Ayiti,” meaning “Land of Mountains”—a term that evolved into “Haiti.”[1]

I did not. But thanks.
A Haitian .gov official was pretty convincing in his explanation, years back. I'm wondering if the link is "revisionist" or if the deputy consul was pulling the blan's leg.

Honestly, the "Hades" origin story seems more likely. The "Land of Mountains" sounds like re-branding.
But what do I know? I wasn't there.

We were in Punt Cana just before Christmas.
Our guide on a Polaris tour was from Hati.
He had nothing nice to say about Hati, other than that was his home.
He was most grateful to be in Punta Cana, making money.

It certainly could be revisionist. Who knows? Hades makes more sense.

What most people don't realize is that Haiti was the most Agriculturally successful Island/territory growing the most produce in the entire Carribbean and richest island at one time when the French owned it, and in 5 years the modern day Haitian government allowed ALL of the trees to be cut down during the oil embargo and turned the entire country into a desert.

Thanks for mentioning that. It was interesting reading, I hadn't heard of it before. What a great place to visit in the 19th century!
And yeah, that pic above certainly does look like a Clinton managed paradise.

Haiti is a complicated place. Some of the most depressing scenery I've ever seen, and also some of the most beautiful. The government is non- functioning. The people are fiercely independent. I've spent some time there over the past five years. The more time I spend there, the less I know about Haiti. I do know that the people are friendly and have a quiet dignity that is hard to describe. Haitians Do not like the Clintons at all. They think the Clinton Foundation stole money intended for Haiti. In general, they like Trump. Life is better in Haiti when there is a Republican president in office.

I have helped repatriate thousands of Haitians, I can say that every time I've been to Haiti it has been disgusting and grotesque. The first time we went to Haiti we were shot at buy Rebels, fun times.

I wonder where they got that idea?
If it were true, surely PBS would be all over it.

Haitians have been protesting for years against the Klintons but you'd never know if you watch/read western media.

Haiti was screwed up from the late 1790s to date.
It was the very first black republic, but it had a king, whose methods and rule pretty soon showed the population that having a black ruler could be every bit as painful as a white one.
Thousands died when King Henri-Christophe built his mighty citadel on the highest peak in Haiti.
After he committed suicide in 1820, followed closely by the murder of his son ten days later, things REALLY went downhill fast, and have never really recovered.

Don't forget that Haiti was actually invaded and occupied by the United States - twice.
The first invasion and occupation lasted for almost 20 years, from 1915 through 1934. The US sought to stabilize Haiti's volatile political situation, protect US business interests, and curb Imperial German influence in the region, but ended up with the US Marine Corps embroiled in a guerrilla war against Haitian rebels for years.
More recently, US troops again invaded and occupied Haiti for about 6 months in late 1994 through early 1995, as the United Nations attempted to stabilize the chaotic political situation in Haiti. (See a pattern?) This one went more smoothly, with minimal conflict and a swift resolution.

If there’s one thing history teaches us is that successful colonies usually began with a nation that speaks English. There was something unique and special about the British that fostered success for its subjects. We should thank our lucky stars that England was interested in colonizing this continent, and beat out the Spanish, Portuguese, and French in doing so.
