The price was just too good to pass.

I’ll spend some time cleaning her up. 77k original miles on a 1991. The L98 sure wasn’t a powerful engine, but I think it’ll be fun to play with for a while.

Being a 1991 it is not a Optispark engine. That is DEFINITELY a plus.
Replacing one of those is not easy, personally I think it is ridiculous to have to remove the water pump to replace a distributor cap or more commonly the whole unit.

Combine that with the problem finding a replacement block for an LT-1 with a catastrophic failure as the block casting is different from the earlier castings and not interchangeable. There is no GM Powertrain replacement long block or a GM Performance Parts engine assembly for that either. So if someone has a LT-1 they will have to search out used blocks or engines, while they built a lot of those Cash For Clunkers decimated the herd so to speak.

Not the most desirable car for 'Vette people but still a nice driver. It looks good. Enjoy.

You know what? They are fun. Doesn't have to be a 600 hp screamer to be exciting. Top down on a sultry summer night flying down a back road with your sweetheart and listening to some tunes..... Viagra on wheels Big Grin

I have a 92. Coupe. They are fun cars. Just so you know the rear wheel is mounted backwards.

Have fun

Edit looking at the pics again. The drivers side wheels look ok. So it seems you have one wheel that is wrong. They are directional. The wheels are called sawblades.

Edit 2. I need some coffee today. Lol. The drivers side are both backwards too. The only wheel in the correct direction is the pass front.

Funny, that means at least one of wheels has been replaced, right? No way to move three wheels from side to side without making it all four. One’s just a wrong-direction orphan! (I’m assuming those didn’t come with a full size spare. If they did, maybe that’s the answer!)

Either drifted into a curb and destroyed the wheel and suspension or ran flat until the rim was destroyed.

My small block L20 does very well in my unloaded truck (with another half ton+ curb weight). While I'm not up on performance specifications, your higher torque and lower weight means screaming off the line?

Yep, haven’t had the rears off to check. I think I’ve got a wrong side replacement rim or two in the mix.

Congrats on the C3, the L98 is a good running engine, it can be bumped up easily like all 5.7 Chevy small blocks

The tires on the wheels appear to be mounted correctly, but backwards, you can't swap them without remounting the tires on the rim properly for the direction you want them to roll, they are directional tires

Horsepower only gives you top end - torque is what make a car fun to drive. The L98 is a torque monster - only 250 HP (Z51) but 350 lb-ft of torque. This figure was not eclipsed until the C5 Z06 (excluding the C4 ZR1). In a street car, torque is what gets the job done. Have fun with your new toy - I've had my L98 C4 for almost 26 years.

Adios,

Yes directional tires/wheels. I haven't pulled the rears to see what they say inside. I don't have much history on the vehicle either. I've changed the oil, have shocks on the way, and will r and r stuff that I can to clean it up a bit. She's a driver, but fun for sure.

I was driving my kids to school a couple of weeks ago and my son says "Hey dad, there's one of those cars with the flags on it." I looked and said "Oh, you mean a Corvette. That's a C4 Corvette, son." To which he replied, "So what? They explode?"

"The L98 is a torque monster - only 250 HP (Z51) but 350 lb-ft of torque."

Nice. It'll hang with my Focus then. 252 HP, 360 lb-ft of torque with an FRP tune, 4 cylinders and 2 liters.

Beatiful car.
