I’d also like to give thanks. I don’t post often but I visit here many times daily to learn about things and get some news. I just logged on to post in the Tommy Lasorda thread, saw this one and wanted to add my two cents. There is such a wealth of talented people here who treat each other with respect, even though they sometimes disagree. I always learn something here when I visit. Thanks.

Agreed. This forum is a beacon of sanity. Without this forum I wouldn’t have any right now. Crazy times and I’m so thankful to have this place.

I can't say I don't post often (although I suspect there are some who wish it were otherwise), SF is a haven for me, too.

Sunset_Va, condolences on the loss of your pet. I know how difficult that is to handle. And I'm pleased you are recuperating well.

Sig Forum is a throwback. No ads, little censorship and freedom of speech, just don't be a fool. I'm a member in good standing of about 10 forums but I spend more time here than the others combined.

I don't want to come across as a suckup but Para runs a forum like no other. There are some common sense rules but for the most part he lets the forum flow and the entertainment value is high. This political season has been hard on us all and some short tempers have flared. I think we're all on edge as well we should be but we can still have some fun - gallows humor is often the most effective.

Hang in there Sunset_Va and I am very sorry for you loss of your dog. My best pal is going on 17 and, while he is in reasonable good health, I know what's coming.

Agree. Good people and good information as well as a great place to hang out. Several times when I've needed help, forum members have reached out to me personally. It is humbling.

I've found gun folks to be the most honest and generous people on the planet... as long as we don't discuss politics or religion.

I've learned so much here about Sig pistols I can't ever pay it all back.

If I wanted to know the best combination of materials and design for a concert ukulele that I wanted to build, and posted the message here, within an hour there would be at least six "reply" posts.

The first would be from a former semi-professional Uke player pointing to a circa-1930s example that worked well for him. References would include high-resolution pictures, manufacturer's drawings, and a link to somebody selling new/old stock metal parts that'd fit.

The second, third, and fourth would be string musicians who also happened, coincidentally, to be engineers or physicists. At least one would be both. They'd explain in layman's terms why a particular wood and density would optimize the first member's suggested design.

The fifth would be a request to check my email, because he had precisely that wood in his shop and would send it gratis.

The sixth would apologize for "ringing in" late but would be a retired luthier who would offer to stop by & help, because fixing the neck to the body can get tricky.

Ten years later, somebody would remember that thread and call my next-of-kin with an offer to play the Uke at my funeral.

I am only slightly exaggerating. I've seen similar scenarios play out time and time again in the past 17 years. I've seen thousands of dollars raised for members, or even acquaintances or friends of members, at the drop of a hat. I've seen support and condolences and congratulations and everything in between. The generosity of the membership here-- in sharing their time, their life experiences and views, their expertise, their moral support, AND their material things-- is absolutely overwhelming.

Like others, this is my substitute for the more popular "social media" and the mainstream news. The members are the neighbors and colleagues I wish I had. So, many thanks to the "management" and to the everyone who contributes to the virtual community. The world would be a poorer place without this site.

Thanks DennisM, that was a great post and soooo very true.

A classic example of the SF, still chuckling. Smile

A great place. Enjoy it.

Sunset, I glad you are ok and saddened about the loss of your dog at the same time. Take care.

I have to chime in as well. Aside from questions about local vendors, this is my go to place for info and news.

Do I disagree with some stuff people say? Sure. Sometimes even with Para. But I respect them.

Sunset VA, I echo what he’s been said about being glad you are ok after a wreck like that, and sad for the loss of your dog.
