I’ve dug up some wastewater pipe with rubber boots that I installed in 1995. The rubber looked as good as the day it was installed. I’d bet the shark bites will last as long as the plumbing to which it is attached.

No different than the old shut off valves with the stem and washers.

SigForum is my respite from the ridiculous amount of stresses in my life. If I choose to take a bit of poetic license in describing my apprehension about an upcoming plumbing project, what the hell do you care?

Forums like this only work if you have members actively posting on a daily basis, so either be an active member of the forum or don’t, but leave me and my posts alone.

I have used them they are amazing. But I would not use them behind Sheetrock or within the wall where you can’t keep an eye on them. Just my opinion on new technology.

They are certified and approved for in wall applications. https://www.sharkbite.com/us/e...be-used-behind-walls

I like them and have used them numerous times.

My caution is about protecting the O-ring when you install one. Then pipe/tubing has the potential of scratching or cutting the O-ring, causing a premature leak. I make sure to de-burr the edge of the pipe and see that the surface that the O-ring will seal to is smooth.

Where is this O-ring? Just inside the fitting, just out of sight.

So for me copper gets steel wool to smooth it. Light file on the edges. Plastic (PEX, etc.) gets de-burred inside and out. My hand checks for smoothness on the pipe end. End is cut 90* square.

When all that is assured I then press the fitting on, sometimes with a twisting motion.

I am very good at sweating pipes but I had my hot water baseboard line burst on me in the middle of the night.
I could not sweat the joints for the life of me because of the water or steam remaining in the line. I added two SharkBite's and they are still working about 12 year later.
