During my first semester in college I saw a new 1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato parked on the street most mornings as I walked from my dorm to the campus. It was immaculate. Such a nifty little car. I’ll never have one, but I’ll never forget it. I’ve never seen another one. https://blog.consumerguide.com...th-750-zagato/?amp=1 Serious about crackers

RenderedImage by , on Flickr Always been a British car fan. MG's, Jags etc and preferred convertibles. Also had a couple Alfa Spiders. Those and Jeeps have been my mainstay (Currently drive a Gladiator). Although it's British it's a strange/different one. This was my first of several Lotus Europas (That's my younger brother in the pic back in the early 80's). I had a few S2's and a couple of Twin Cams too. -9mmepiphany- I haven't had one in a few years but got into one at a show last year. Not as easy to get into and much more claustrophobic than I remembered. But I will get another someday.

My paternal Grandfather was into El Caminos and my maternal Grandfather was into Racheros. My first car/truck was a Dodge Rampage. One day, I'd like to get a 3rd or 4th generation El Camino with a 350. A 4th, 5th, or 6th generation Ranchero with a 351 Windsor would be acceptable too. I have always wanted to do a project with a Checker Marathon. Drop a full on Corvette or CTS-V motor into it, with suspension and brakes to match. Or convert it to 4X4. I have always wanted a Fox body Mustang PPV, too! End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I still remember waiting at the Studebaker dealership in Oak Park, Illinois for the arrival of the first Avanti in the Chicago area. It was worth the wait! A few years later, after Studebaker quit making cars and sold the South Bend factory to the Altman brothers (I think) a friend and I toured the factory. Still one of my favorite cars. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I have had a pretty good variety of vehicles over the years. I settled down to a jeep wrangler for about 2 decades. I have absolutely never cared for so called crossover type glorified station wagons that are out today, Having said that, for some strange reason I like the Subaru crosstrek ?

A friend had a Mark III in about 1971. We drove it up to Road America for the June Sprints rather than my Volvo, just to see what the crowd reaction would be, and I'll say it drew some attention, for sure! -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I have driven Chevy S10s for about 20 years. I've only had 4 in that time, but they've served me well and I'm currently spending way too much money on one as my daily driver. This to say, I've always been a dyed in the wool GM guy and only ever had RWD vehicles including my first, an 81 Malibu. I would very much like to have a Honda CRX to fool around with. Small, light, nimble and with Honda aftermarket support. Be a hell of a little corner Carver. But I'm 6' and 285, so probably not in the cards for me. A Perpetual Disappointment...

I gotta add another one to my wishlist. My father and I were looking at cars tonight for sale on FB market. We came across this gem and to my shock my grandfather owned one almost exactly like this one. My father doesn’t get excited about cars too easily unless they are a KILLER deal but he surprised me with how much he liked this Rocket 88. Maybe I take after my grandfather a bit because this car is just damn cool in my eyes. Look at that badge on the trunk lid and that engine. What a ride!! The 55 Bel Air gets a lot of love but some other pretty sweet rides were also made that year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Another oddball, I've always liked the Nash Metropolitan Friend of mine saw one at a show with a cammed big-block Chevrolet V8 under the hood. Said it rocked the car every time it loped over. The Enemy's gate is down.

We've had diesel-engined MBs since the late '70s, apart from a 380SL for fifteen years, and now on our twelth. As for 'stinky diesel', I have no idea where that came from unless, of course, you are talking big truck engines. Such engines are only stinky when they are driven countless miles without servicing, like they are in US. Here in Europe ALL vehicles over three years old are subject to a compulsory annual inspection which can, and WILL, put you off the road for something as small as a busted lightbulb. My latest family car is a E Class station wagon - the third such car in that series - it makes 54mpg on a run and produces less than half as much crap out of the tailpipe as the gasoline version. My weekend fun car is a SLK250, THAT makes 65mpg with the roof up, and 62 with it down. It doesn't stink either.

The 80’s Mercs are old enough to be exempt from emissions testing in my state, hence the huge smoke stack sticking out of the MB’s hood in the original post. As far as “stinky diesel” that is exactly what my wife would call the car. Diesel exhaust has a unique aroma, I don’t mind it but my wife certainly does. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance
