I just received three emails purportedly from Colt Archives about new information they have discovered on one I had lettered. All within about an hour. These emails also had a urgency statement that I had to respond within 48 hours to view this.

It looked “off” so I was getting ready to phone the archives when another email came through says ing that they have been hacked and not to respond to these emails.

Just a heads up.

I guess all those who ever had a letter from the Archives will be flooded with shit from the scammers.

I think my Colt dice and marbles will be OK. I had one of the earliest all stainless steel Government models. A great 1911. Is Colt even still in business ?

The legit Colt e-mail seems to imply that it was Square that was compromised, not their archive letter database. Make no sense for the latter to even be open to a net-based attack in the first place, but it would take a certain amount of correlation between the Square data and the conclusion of who's a Colt owner, and what they have. More work than is customary for these threat actors.

I'd be curious to know if the phishing e-mails included model information or other data that should logically only be available from Colt and not their payment processor.

Received a response to my email that states the Archives is checking but it appears that the only th8ng o promised was the email lists. More info to follow, signed by Paul Szymaszek.

A Message About Recent Scam Emails
This morning, our payment processing account through Square was compromised & used to send three marketing emails using our customer's email addresses. A clickable link was included, either suggesting there was an account or invoicing issue, or more information available from a records / archive letter request. Please do not click any links. If you have done so, do not provide any personal information through these links.

At this time there is no indication that any credit card and / or banking information has been compromised. However, should you have concerns, we suggest contacting your card issuer / bank to verify if any fraudulent activity has occurred, particularly if you opened the link(s) in the emails.
