I have a 2013 2WD F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Just got to 89K miles. Truck has been solid and dependable. Couple of weeks ago it started to missfire and run very rough when I stepped into it to pass on the highway. Got the check engine light and had to drive very gingerly and smoothly to keep it from coming back on.

Took my truck to autozone and borrowed a code reader and it said I had a #3 cylinder misfire. Did some internet "research" and found several videos on youtube about the issue. Most likely cause seemed to be bad spark plug or coil.

Plugs are due to be replaced at 100K so I figured if one was possibly bad I would go ahead and replace them all now, and while I was at it would replace all of the coils as well. One of the videos mentioned that aftermarket coils seemed to fail more often so the recommended OEM coils. Decided to stick with OEM.

Local Ford dealer only had 4 coils and was quoting retail price. Ouch. Searched online and found Village Ford sells parts at wholesale so they were about 30% cheaper and of course could get all 6 coils and plugs. I was working all week so I couldn't get to it for a few days so with expedited shipping the parts got here before I could install them anyway.

Took me about 2.5 hours, one busted forearm and numerous cuss words but I got it done. Since when did it become so difficult to replace a few spark plugs on an engine? Smile

I also only broke one plastic part on the coil connector which means I will have to replace that some time as the locking tab broke off as I was trying to remove it. I got the clip back on after all the work but I'm not sure I'll be able to get it off again without breaking it the next time it needs to come off (hopefully not till 200K miles).

Anyway the truck started right up and ran very smoothly. Took it out on the highway and stepped into it and it ran nice and smooth.

I've been looking at new F150s for a couple of years to replace my 2WD with a 4WD and would definitely pick the 3.5 engine again. The engine is strong and has no problem towing anything that I have had to tow. Nothing wrong with the V8 but I wouldn't shy away from the 3.5 V6 just because of the twin turbos.

I have a 2020 F150 Kingranch 3.5 with 14500 miles on it so far with the full tow package. So far so good. Tow a 236 center console with it comfortably.

My son has a 2016 F-150 xlt with the 2.7 motor.
He has over 80K on it and has averages 22.6 mpg over its lifespan.

I drove it about a week earlier this month and it has a surprising amount of pep to it. He’s still on the original tires and brakes…just oil changes so far.
If I were to get one this would be my choice.
