Yeah, frozen hash browns have over doubled in price since 2021. 3% my ass. And of course this zinger: The future of Social Security remains uncertain and that could have a major impact on retirement plans, as funds are expected to be depleted by 2035, according to the Board of Trustees. Amazing welfare programs like SNAP, Section 8 never seem to get the threat of cuts. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I read the article and have one question. What is a "disabled corker", and can I get more money if I am one? I guess that's 2 questions. ____________ Pace

Take a look at my electricity bill, my natural gas bill, my gasoline bill, my grocery bill......... Sure 3% easily covers one or two of these. Inflation is a big deal to many of my friends who have been forced to cut back on basic needs - including mayonnaise. Just 3 percent? That is no where close to real inflation rate IMHO but not surprising. Going to be interesting to see what they do with SS and Medicare due to it's dire financial situation. I am sure "tax the rich" will be the main answer but there just aren't enough rich people around to make much of a dent in the SS/Medicare problem. The can has been kicked down to just about the very end of the road now.

Yep, spent the majority of my working life thinking I wouldn't be able to collect SS because it would be dissolvent by the time I could start collecting it. But I've been getting fat on it for seven years now! ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

I got my first "check" (direct deposit) last April. I'll be 65 in October and glad I started taking it when I did. The fact we've been paying into it all our working lives and that they've stolen from it really pisses me off. It's future is very uncertain. I pity the people younger than I.

No More Mr. Nice Guy |
Part of my decision to take SS at 62 last year was to get what I can in case they have to make future cuts due to insolvency. Most likely the government will alter adjustments and taxes to effectively reduce payouts while being able to claim they haven't touched SS itself. Inflation will miraculously be near zero, and taxes on retirees will increase.
