Two dogs update: Finally found something they will do together
Does one of your dogs always bite you when you pet the other one?

Jelly hates all living creatures besides me.

Bella hate when I touch anything besides her.

I’m always losing, one bites with the power to crush bones, one still has puppy razor teeth.

I’m losing all around. And scared to touch either one right now.

In the beginning jelly won, I believe because she isn’t autistic.

Then here comes Bella from the outside doing what puppies do best. I can’t win.

I’ll do it, Pa. She’s my dog. Problem solved.

When we had two they would fight for attention but there was no biting.

Okay calm down Hosses Big Grin, Jelly only bites me when we are roughhousing. However, the puppy bites me a lot. But, she’s a puppy! And I took care of her so no worries! Wink

In full transparency my dogs are betas, this was a joke. 100% a joke. Don’t come after me FBI. No dogs were harmed in the making of this thread.

I have lightly applied "tooth" pressure on dog's ears, and found they get the message loud and clear. (Yes, ear nibbler...)

Enough to cause slight discomfort, but not pain.

(It was a thing that I thought of as a child, and realized it worked).

But it also is only to dogs that are familiar to me. I would not dare to a dog where "we" weren't known to one another, and only when typical methods are not working.

Sigmonkey,

I’ve about broke the puppy of biting. We had a go at it one night and she got the hint as to who was in charge.

She still nibbles but all I have to do is make a sound and she quits. Jelly is a saint by most accounts. So long as you’re not a mammal other than a dog or human. Then she’s a 55# fur missle.

I’m stopping by Arkansas on my way to Wisconsin in the fall, hope to see you then.

Our multi dog years involved mom and a pup. Mom had no problem explaining the pecking order. Tough old bird, outlived ever member of her family by years, this after being run over by a duly pick up and a bout with heartworms.

I have two aussies. A female about 4.5 years old and a male that just turned 2. They are bestest friends and love each other. But they are both jealous when I pay attention to one or the other.

Especially the boy! He also takes all of the toys away from " Big Sis " .

It's funny that they will protect and guard each other and me from unknown people and animals, yet are very well socialize and love meeting people and other animals, especially dogs and cats.

What worked for us is we established a hierarchy in the pack. When one of the dogs got aggressive, simulated what the dominant dog does. It pins the submissive dog down by the side of the throat with a stern bite and holds it there until the submissive dog relents. We obviously aren’t biting the dog so we formed our fingers into a claw and pressed it into the fur at the side of the neck. Only took a few times and then an occasional reinforcement. Worked for us.

I have two poodles, 9 and 10 years old. Raised them from pups. If I pay attention to the male, the female comes over and bats me with her paw. If I pay attention to the female, the male sits there and gives me that "what about me look".

I have 6. 2 of them are hunting retriever champions, with one having an upland champion title as well. 4 of them are 1 year old pups. They all want to be the center of attention. Once I pet one, they all try to muzzle their way to my hands.

I know that you're half joking around about the biting, but I teach early on that it's not acceptable. The way I stop it is to place my hand over their muzzle and roll their top lip into their top teeth and slightly squeeze, causing discomfort, while saying "no bite". It doesn't take long for the biting to stop.

Yeah, I had a pair of brothers, same parents but different litters. I lost the older one a year ago, the "younger" one (now 11) is still with me. They would compete for my attention, but otherwise they were best buddies. The younger dog is blind, has been since he was about a year old. I really believe that his big brother understood that his eyes weren't right somehow because he would lick at them, as if trying to sooth them.

Ahh, dogs.

OUH, NO BITEN! In in really stern voice with eyes that will kill. They will get the message.
Jelly will get the message. The pup may take more training for her to figure out where she is in the pecking order Wink

I have 4. No one bites, but they do try to compete for attention. Just keep reminding the biter that it’s not acceptable. They’ll catch on quickly.

They do this for 10 minutes or so, all growls. Only thing they do together. It’s a start.
