Horrible week in my area for Emergency Responders Login/Join
Do No Harm,
Do Know Harm
posted
I posted a few days ago about a coworker being shot. She has been released from the hospital and will recover.

Two days ago a married couple of deputies in the county I live/work got into a domestic and the female deputy shot and killed her husband.

Then two days ago in the county to our south, three deputies and a police officer were shot after responding to a domestic. One of the deputies died today. The bad guy even shot the damn police helicopter.

In addition, a mother killed her two young children a few days ago and then jumped off an overpass and killed herself. Same day there was a homeless guy killed by a train and two people died in a wrong way interstate crash where the cars blew up and burned. And a ten year old was shot by a 13 year old.

And around the same time there was an officer involved shooting with a suspect killed in a concurrent jurisdiction in my county. And one of our paramedics was killed by her husband a few days prior during a domestic in the county north of us.

An off duty officer in the eastern part of the state died in an accidental shooting a couple of days ago too.

A hell of a week. Those are just the ones I can think of laying here. I had no direct involvement with any, other than the officer that was shot at our headquarters. But damn. Hug your loved ones.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

That's a rough week. Hang in there. Is your agency making critical stress professionals available for your people?

Damn!!!

Horrible week does not seem to accurately describe it, but cannot think of a better word.

Prayers and sympathy for all affected.

Wear your vest, take no unnecessary chances!

chongosuerte has hit it right on the head 1000%.

It has been one busy and horrible week for the Charlotte Metro area.

The investigator I relieve on scheduled shift nights was assigned and on scene for almost every incident that chongosuerte mentioned in his post.

Update - Doing the Right Thing

The South Carolina detective who died was Michael R Doty, and on Monday night the York County Council voted to let his twin brother Chris, who is also an LEO, have/keep his brother's service weapon. Link
