I really REALLY hate that the dope abusers have made it so that legit folks in need of pain management are treated like criminals by doctors and pharmacist, etc. I suppose most of it is government regs enacted to slow the sales/use of oxy or whatever. But still. It sucks. ------------------ SBrooks

Drill Here, Drill Now![]() |
One of my coworkers always walked with very noticeable limp from bad knees. He went on an international assignment so there was a year or two we only spoke on the phone. COVID ended the international assignment and he returned to Houston mid-year. I didn't think about it the first time he went skiing in Colorado this year, but when he went the 2nd time I asked him how he could ski with his knees. Easy as he got them both replaced when he first got back to the US (age 54 at the time). Before a day of lawn work and he used to end up crippled for 3 days, and a day of skiing would cripple him for a week. Now, zero pain and he's wondering why he didn't do it sooner. Last weekend was his 4th ski trip this ski season. It really is bad and makes no sense at all but the laws are passed like they do gun laws that just make the ninnies passing them feel good.

^^^^^^^^^^ The other part of the equation is Purdue Pharma who marketed to physicians and told them Oxycodone was not addictive with pain patients. Add in a few sociopathic physicians who want to have Porsches in their garage and you have a recipe for disaster. If your legit pain management doc{usually an anetheiogist} is audited they better have a solid drug testing program in place. There are effective pain managment programs in existence but they are not really advertised and marketed.

Staring back from the abyss ![]() |
It's the pendulum swinging back. 30 years or so ago, there was a huge push to treat pain...any pain was bad. It was labelled the "5th vital sign". Providers were being sued for not giving out enough narcotics. Now, the push is for no narcotics. I was in a meeting just yesterday asking us to start putting in peripheral nerve catheters to treat longer term pain vs. giving patients a few days of narcs. It's silly. Narcotics are good things. No...they are great. They serve a purpose and should be used when needed. And regarding Purdue? The only they are guilty of is practicing capitalism. They scored big with "the 5th vital sign". Good for them. Nope, let's not blame the people who allowed themselves to get addicted to opiates and let's not blame the providers who knew damned good and well that opiates are addictive (any undergrad pharmacology course will tell you that) and let's not blame the judicial system for allowing BS lawsuits to go through, nope...let's blame "Big Pharma", the outfit that makes the widgets that everyone wants, needs, and is required to receive. ![]() Yeah, it's a fucked up country we live in. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Best guess is that the lab confused the samples. I would demand another sample, sent to a different lab, as the one they are using seems to be rather slipshod.
