If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

God bless our veterans, and especially our Vietnam veterans, today.

Yes, thinking of you all. Especially those that may be alone and or have health issues. May God watch over you. And thank you for you sacrifice on behalf of a mostly grateful nation. And fuck those that were not.

Welcome home you beautiful bastards.
I truly am glad you have made it home, and that some of you took your time teaching me how to be a man.

I was an Army Reservist during the Vietnam War, trained as a combat medic, never activated. But all of my training cadre had been Vietnam combat veterans. Seems as I get older I have growing respect for those who have served in the military, particularly those who have been in combat.
Two experiences I will always remember. Our Scout Troop was planting headstone flags at the Golden Gate National Cemetery for Memorial Day. We had just finished a row, a lady and her daughter came up behind us, stopped and gazed for a few moments at the headstone where we just planted a flag, quite subdued. I glanced back, they were both in tears, I assume the soldier was close family.
That resonated later when I saw a fellow coming out of the store wearing a Vietnam vet cap. I stopped, saluted, thanked him for his service. He paused for a moment, then quietly and sincerely, "don't thank me, thank my buddies who didn't come home".
For those who served, I salute you.

I was in the army 1955-1967, all but one year in combat units. I was 1 of 8 NCOs stationed in Frankfurt during the last of my tour. I was the only one that did not get sent to "Nam". Of the 7 who went, 5 never came home.
I have tried several times to visit the "wall" looking for their names. Broke down every time and finally decided not to try again. I remember those guys with love and respect!
Screen getting blurry again.
My best buddy and witness at my wedding went over there 4 times. Made it home safely and left the army about the same time I did.

My Dad's war. 5th SFG & MACV-SOG. He never talked about his Vietnam tours, and growing up I never gave much thought to the ribbons on his uniform or on the friends who would occasionally stop by when they were back in the "Big Army." I never asked many questions, because at that point it was just Dad's job. The few I did ask got brief, general answers, and a gentle change of subject.
Looking at some of the unofficial unit rosters that are more available now, and looking at the toll those years took-- then, and since-- on those men, it makes a little more sense.
God bless all of you guys who came home, and those who didn't.

Seven cousins in combat in Vietnam and two did not come home. God bless all. I grew up reading the KIA lists in the newspaper not the comics.

Thanks to all that stepped up and paved the way.
My dad volunteered for the U.S. Army and served from 68-71.
From early 68 to mid 69 he did his tour working out of LZ Uplift which is about 8 KM north of Phu My in Bình Định Province.
