I’m guessing that the pilot isn’t greatly admired by the surviving passengers. Note to self: never ride in an airplane if the pilot is wearing a parachute. “Six people miraculously managed to survive a plane crash on Saturday afternoon after the pilot parachuted out of the aircraft near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, Missouri. The plane, a single-engine Cessna C206, crashed in a hay field close to the airport, outside of Kansas City, just before 1pm on Saturday. The pilot had been wearing a parachute and was able to jump from the plane before the crash. He was found at a hangar at the airport. It is unclear whether the other passengers were also able to escape the Cessna before it struck the ground. [???] Images taken from the scene show badly-mangled wreckage. …” DailyMail article: https://mol.im/a/13460543 Serious about crackers

The first sign of a problem was the pilot wearing a parachute. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

Not too many details, but this article says everyone bailed out. Pilot was located at the hanger. Ski diving flight? https://www.msn.com/en-us/trav...-airport/ar-BB1n3dOz

Dailymail did a half-assed reporting job on that. Chose speed to publishing over accuracy. The other article MSN copied from local news had the pertinent facts (ie pilot + 6 passengers had parachutes). Sooo, six passengers, plus the pilot, ALL with parachutes...Everyone bails, pilot exits the aircraft last! The plane crashes, but EVERYBODY survives! I am not a pilot but it would seem that a pilot has the responsibility to report the crash. However, the articles are lacking in detail so perhaps that happened and wasn't reported. Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

Wait, what? |
^^^ Who says he didn’t? It stands to reason that when he returned to the hanger without his plane, they might inquire… “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

The original notion is better, makes a great plot for an episode of Murder She Wrote or something similar.

. I never flew for a skydiving company or went skydiving on my own... I have friends who have piloted for skydiving operations. Standard procedures required pilots be jump qualified and wear a parachute. Cessna 206, doors removed with only one installed seat for the pilot is a common aircraft used by skydiving companies. If I was a skydiver and saw the pilot jump, I sure wouldn't be waiting around to get out!!! Once the pilot says everyone out, they had better get out because at that point the pilot probably doesn't have any control of the aircraft, nor do they expect to get control. If an aircraft is out of control, there might not be much anyone can do to help others get out due to the physical forces on the aircraft falling out of the sky. Helping others depends on a lot of factors, is the aircraft is spinning, falling tail first or nose first, inverted, breaking apart, etc... Happy to read that all survived and nobody on the ground was hurt. .

Savor the limelight |
Seems accurate to me. Six people on board jumped out of a crashing plane and the pilot jumped with them. It’s classic tabloid journalism and completely in line with what the Daily Mail is.

Damn it. I was hoping the story ended with the six passengers grabbing an inflatable life raft, pulling the rip cord and bailing. After riding down the mountain slope and into a river and over a water fall, they then meet some desperate Indian villagers who implore them to take on a quest to find their mystic stone and save their children from slavery. That would've been a cooler story. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

She who makes the rules prohibited me from any further skydiving after a plane I had jumped from crashed, also here in Missouri. About 10 years ago another Missouri operation had a Cessna 182 that was damaged by a departing jumper. Had a very young pilot that had never skydived before, and after determining that the inability to control the plane would make a landing attempt dangerous he jumped and they let the plane go down in a field. These things happen, and it's always a good thing when everybody walks away from it. Others aren't always so lucky.

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
Back in my skydiving days the pilot always wore a parachute. I never got a serious answer to why, I assumed it was in case of plane trouble, but he had a lot of one-liners about it. Like “he got free jumps as a perk” and "his wife was pregnant and if she went into labor he needed to be able to go right away". “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

Ugh. This was a skydiving flight. Everyone bailed. No information why the pilot chose to abandon the plane unless something catastrophic had happened. This article is stupid. He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.
