Not too long ago, the feat was thought unreachable. But, this amazing athlete finally broke through. This man is not just incredibly talented but humble and an all around nice person. Congratulations!

Posting from cell phone, so I'm a little copy-and-paste challenged.

Yeah, absolutely incredible! Slightly over 4:34/mile for 26.2 miles!

I doubt I could ever have run 1x 5 min mile...

Jesus. That's amazing.

I have no idea what in God's name he is going on about here, but he sure is one fast SOB.

WOW!!!!!!

I think about running as fast as I can in a short sprint. He ran faster than that for the whole distance.

Truly amazing!!

Congratulations to him.

This truly is astounding. I couldn't imagine running that fast for a single mile, much less 26.2. I thought I was fast doing my 2 mile in 12:36 for my Army PT test the other day. Guess I have a ways to go to catch up.

I was in grade school when Roger Bannister broke the first 4 minute mile.....no one would have ever anticipated 26 of 'em in a row....

I'm not impressed with the record. There's a truck ahead of him with a laser guide.

Nevermind the shoes but there was a phalanx of rotating runners serving as windbreakers even.

Sorry to rain on Eliud Kipchoge’s parade, but his marathon feat is tainted by technology

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I have to agree. He had all the best conditions laid out for him, including a team of the very best LDR's in the world. The record needed to be set in a REAL race, not a road-show.

I'be guessing that the Guinness book of Records does not accept this run, crazy good though it was. These days, the Bannister mile would have been seen as a staged event - just like this one was.

By me, he gets no coconut.

Well, in the article, it does state that this is not an official record.

Right at the top of the linked article:

"It will not count as an official world record because standard competition rules for pacing and fluids weren’t followed."

So all competitive shooting should be done with SAAs and driving with Model Ts to make it fair?

Technology will always play a role. Drafting and having pace setters is the norm in many sports. In cycling they call it a peloton, And having a pace setting truck is just a foreshadowing of the heads up displays that future athletes will wear.

Tech will always help sports as it should. It makes sports faster, safer, and more accessible.

There was a quote from Ediud that summed up why he did this, "Now I've done it, I am expecting more people to do it after me."

That's the point -- to show it can be done.

'Zactly, it is not a record at all nor was that the point...the point was to prove it could be done under ideal conditions, that it is possible for a human to run 26.2 mi under 2 hours.

Wrong. What is “it” that was shown exactly? Without standardized rules, no record is valid. Following your logic, why don’t we just let all baseball players use corked or aluminum bats? Why should drug testing be performed at all in sports? Handicaps are just that and while the time is impressive, it is much less so compared to other stellar athletes’ performances given the advantages this runner had.
