Seems kinda sexist that his paintings are all of “classically” beautiful women. Seems rather mysoginistic and completely toxic toward real women and LGBTQCBRSPWOXYZ folks as well as those folks who identify as oak trees and the fire hydrant fuckers. He should be ashamed and pilloried.

I am trying to adapt to a 2019 kinda mindset and be enraged by the littlest thing. Don’t mind me. Smile

Seriously though dude has some skills.

Pretty pictures. Amazing what they can do with paint by the numbers these days.

Quite good. The amount of realism he is able to evoke using watercolors astounds me.

Oh, and nice subject matter as well.

In my younger days I did quite a few oil paintings. I also did a few water color paintings but never really liked the results. Blows my mind that someone has actually developed such skills with watercolors.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s always seemed to me that watercolor doesn’t permit fixing mistakes or doing anything over—am I right?

You can always paint dark over light, but only so many times....otherwise you create "mud"....or what looks like a dull surface. Natural light makes it's way through watercolor to give it it's glow. Too much over-painting ruins this. Also, you can "lift" watercolor off the paper to some degree, but you risk damaging the paper underneath if you're not careful. Even if you don't actually poke through the paper, you remove sizing which helps the paint give it's effect.

Also, there are different types of watercolors. Staining watercolors are far more difficult to lift vs. transparent paints.

I guess I always assumed that watercolors stained the paper. I was not familiar with transparent paints.

They all "stain" the paper to some degree, but transparent versions can almost be lifted completely. Staining paints are much more difficult to lift. Again, too much scrubbing will damage the paper. If you know you're going to put a darker color over that area, you're probably safe.

Almost all paintings that I do now are on gesso -treated paper. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this surface, but one of the big advantages is the ability to lift almost any paint back to white.

Fabulous talent. God did a great job when he created the female form and Hanks proves it.

Very appealing in style, execution, and, you bet, subject matter. Really nice work.

EDIT: If you can tear eyes away from the primary subjects in these paintings, you'll see that the backgrounds, landscapes, and props are really beautiful and well-rendered, too. I generally prefer a more sketchy look in watercolor, but he does a great job in this more realistic style.
