Hello folks. I'm thinking about getting a California Real Estate License.

Lots of options online in terms of coursework. Some significantly more expensive than others.

Does anyone have personal experience with a school/site/program they can recommend? Thanks!

The classes all follow the same syllabus and are all effectively the same, just make sure the classes satisfy the DRE education requirements. My advice would be to focus on a class that does exam prep and has a lot of practice questions. A lot of what they teach you in the class is not asked anywhere. They gave us a calculator for use during the exam but not a single math question was asked.

The questions have not changed much over the years with some of them still using 1970s law. I kid you not. I was tasked with helping them revise the questions several years ago and there were lots of outdated questions and questions that were wrong compared with current law. Did they ever update them? The last I heard the program lost its funding so I don't believe they did. Do a lot of practice exams, learn the questions, and you will do fine.

All real estate courses are universally boring, broad, and barely relevant.

Your goal is to fill your coursework requirements with the minimal amount of friction, learn the answers to the salesperson exam, and then put in time working with a broker who will actually teach you what you want to know. Most large brokerages (the Coldwell Bankers and Keller Williams of the world) have additional training offered to their associates that are actually relevant (things like how to navigate a residential purchase agreement, how to investigate a property to make proper disclosures, etc.)

That said, my salespeople use First Tuesday for their classes because it's cheap and reputable. That's as good an endorsement as any.

CA RE License can now be done all online.

You will still need a sponsoring broker to get your license.
