It's a scam, oh the power of advertising.

Use a real product, use common sense in your computer habits and some regular standard maintenance.

OK.
Figured as much, but nice to have input from the forum.

Since my PC blue screened on me a couple years ago I haven't loaded anything onto it that I mind losing. Which I'm finding is applicable to life in general. Back on topic, I still have malwarebytes and use CCleaner regularly.

Used to have ESET NOD32 and liked it because it wasn't a resource hog and I never had issues with it.

I only use Microsoft Windows Defender with regular updates. Anything else is garbage and a waste of money. Your fooling yourself by thinking additional anti virus programs are helping, in reality they are creating vulnerabilities and when they find something its to late.

Most of the Anti-Virus suites will do fine.

(I would not go with the Russian one...but that is me.)

#1. Updates. Patching. Do them.
#2. On your computer...is your account an Admin or User. Maybe think about doing your everyday computer surfing from the User account.

WHEN the computer is compromised...harder for the Bad Guys to own the computer initially.

#3. Two computers

One for email and websurfing
One for financial and bill paying.

Never cross the paths...

#4. Back-up. Memory is cheap. Losing a lifetime of kids photos to a ransomware attack is not...

#5 Pick strong passwords or pass-phrases.

I considered all the advice given here. I'm going with Bitdefender.

I've used Bitdefender for the last 3-4 years.
I like the Safepay section to do banking. It could be hokum and smoke and mirrors for all I know but I haven't been compromised yet using their software.

No issues except when they had an "upgrade" at the end of last year that wasn't compatable with Win 7.
That got fixed and no problems since.
