After Dr. Soon-Shiong bought the paper. The commie editorial board was set to endorse Harris for president, but was overruled by Soon-Shiong-appointed executive editor Terry Tang. Editorials editor Mariel Garza furiously resigned. Her letter of resignation to Tang: “Terry, Ever since Dr. Soon-Shiong vetoed the editorial board’s plan to endorse Kamala Harris for president, I have been struggling with my feelings about the implications of our silence. I told myself that presidential endorsements don’t really matter; that California was not ever going to vote for Trump; that no one would even notice; that we had written so many “Trump is unfit” editorials that it was as if we had endorsed her. But the reality hit me like cold water Tuesday when the news rippled out about the decision not to endorse without so much as a comment from the LAT management, and Donald Trump turned it into an anti-Harris rip. Of course it matters that the largest newspaper in the state—and one of the largest in the nation still—declined to endorse in a race this important. And it matters that we won’t even be straight with people about it.” Glad she’s outta there. https://mol.im/a/13996867 Serious about crackers

She sure showed him by "furiously" resigning. Yes, getting all stampy-feet is the best way to show how much everyone should listen to you. What a great example!

Well sweetheart, it's an imperfect world. We don't always get what we want. MAYBE your new boss decided not to endorse because the dems aren't fielding a legitimate, viable candidate. Or, MAYBE, he just wants to do what journalists are SUPPOSED to do, and remain apolitical. What a novel concept that is, huh? Now if he changed his mind and came out endorsing Trump, I imagine there would be some serious head explosions among the staff.

Sea change? Highly doubt it. They will always be leftist. The LA Times' owner, just like Bezos of the WaPo, is not endorsing KK because he sees the writing on the wall and doesn't want to alienate Trump. These are business creatures and are just playing it safe. According to Wiki, "Soon-Shiong and his family were major donors to the Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign.[27] According to Politico, Soon-Shiong twice privately met with Donald Trump during his presidential transition to unsuccessfully try and get a position in the administration." I find that fact that he sought a position in President Trump’s administration to be encouraging. Serious about crackers

And the editor threw a fit because the owner of the paper overrode the views of the editorial staff. What makes her think the editorial staff's political views are any more valid, correct, or interesting than the owner's views? Both are opinions, not reporting on facts. If the owner interfered with reporting decisions, or made decisions about what stories were newsworthy, she might have a point. When it is opinion pieces, she can go pound sand. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I don't see what's so encouraging about it. If Killary had won, he would have more than likely got a position in her administration. Q

Maybe, just maybe the LAT didn’t want to sign their name to the likely train wreck that is KH administration. Or maybe they don’t think she’s capable of implementing the socialist policies they hope for. She won’t have the political power or leadership in her cabinet. P229

Thank you Very little |
Agree, he owns it and can do whatever he wants with the papers decision to endorse or not endorse anyone... To some, Opinions matter, and with papers like the NYT, LAT, WAPO, their editorials carry weight with a lot of people who trust that institution, There are a lot of people who buy into the endorsements as as if the paper is basing it's choice on facts, no different than the talking heads at Fox, CNN, MSNBC.

Do the next right thing |
Why? Given the absolute dregs that found positions in his first administration and then spent the last 4+ years attacking him, I don't see any positive to that.

Outrage among L.A. Times editorial board members and subscribers after owner blocks Kamala Harris endorsement By Rajan Laad https://www.americanthinker.co...ris_endorsement.html "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Beso's last endorsement cost him a 10 billion government contract when Trump won last time. The Donald cancelled it. Even for a man worth 200 Billion that is not something you want to keep doing. https://www.reuters.com/legal/...ellation-2021-07-09/

No sea change here, but it's an encouraging fresh start. Good for Jennings. Conservative commentator Scott Jennings joins LA Times editorial board amid paper shake up 'I think Dr Soon-Shiong is doing something important and groundbreaking and am honored he asked me to play a role in that,' CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings wrote By Kristine Parks | Fox News Published November 29, 2024 5:48pm EST Conservative commentator Scott Jennings announced he had joined the Los Angeles Times' editorial board on Friday as part of the owner's new directive to make the paper more balanced. Jennings, who often sparks outrage from liberal CNN viewers, praised L.A. Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong on X for his "important and groundbreaking" mission. "It’s true - I’ve accepted @DrPatSoonShiong invitation to join the editorial board of the @latimes," Jennings wrote on X. "I’ve written columns for the paper over the last few years and was honored to do so under such a storied and important masthead. I love newspapers and believe in strong journalism and strong opinion pages that represent a wide array of views. I approach my commentary jobs by starting with the truth and then providing my honest opinion based on my conservative values and experience. I think Dr Soon-Shiong is doing something important and groundbreaking and am honored he asked me to play a role in that," he continued. Jennings said the paper overhaul was a step forward in addressing concerns many Americans have about biased reporting in the media. "Roughly half (or more) of the country often feels like legacy media doesn’t care what it thinks and has little interest in fairly representing its views and values. I plan to represent those Americans who believe they are often ignored or even ridiculed in legacy media and applaud Dr Soon-Shiong’s move to bring balance to the editorial board. My other professional obligations won’t be impacted by this new opportunity," Jennings' post concluded. https://x.com/ScottJenningsKY/...-amid-paper-shake-up The paper's owner revealed earlier in the week that he had invited the CNN senior political commentator to join the editorial board as part of this new direction. "That’s why I want Scott on our new editorial board!!! Growing the board with experts who have thoughtful balanced views and new candidates are accepting the challenge to join us! Way to go Scott and thanks for accepting. Stay tuned we are making this happen," Soon-Shiong wrote Thursday on X. Jennings was formerly an aide President George W. Bush before becoming a CNN contributor in 2017 and L.A. Times contributing columnist in 2019. After President-elect Donald Trump's win earlier this month, Soon-Shiong announced that he wanted to overhaul the paper and let "all voices" be heard with a new editorial board. Soon-Shiong told Fox News that he wanted there to be a clear distinction between news and opinion in the paper's reporting. "If it's news, it should just be the facts, period," Soon-Shiong explained to "Fox News @ Night" host Trace Gallagher a few days later. "And if it's an opinion, that's maybe an opinion of the news, and that's what I call now a voice. And so, we want voices from all sides to be heard, and we want the news to be just the facts." The L.A. Times owner came under fire last month by readers and staff after the editorial board did not endorse a presidential candidate for the first time since 2008. Q
