The girls don’t latch the gate completely. Jelly got out along with Bella. Bella is too dumb to run off, she came back right away.

We looked for her for several hours today. Facebook posts and a call to the PD.

My wife got photo confirmation from the humane society that she’s in a little cell. She even has a toy in there with her.

I’m buying GPS collars now.

Several years ago our older, maybe 13 or 14 yo Australian cattle dog was with an elderly friend and the gate got open and she escaped. Ran all over the little town. Sightings from several locals. Finally my wife tracked her down like 3-4 miles way up a hill overlooking town thanks to the help of locals who had seen her.

Local PD said she was picked up by the animal control officer about 3 hours ago.

I have NOT enjoyed my day off with my girl missing since this morning. I’m glad she’s okay but I gotta work on these kids latching the gate. I may put a pin in it for guaranteed locking.

I’m also definitely getting the GPS collars for her and Bella. 100$ a year or so is well worth the piece of mind.

I was sitting in the garage one night about midnight and in walked a little dog had to be 10 to 12 years old. Came right up to me and sat down, clearly scared but friendly, got her water, food, put her in a small dog crate and drove around the neighborhood near us. It was clear the dog was at some level of blind.

We took her to vet and she wasn't chipped, wife drove around the next day and we finally ran into the kids that apparently let her out and she left.

Guess she saw the lights and heard the TV and walked into the garage looking for home.

Both of them are chipped. But more than the humane society I fear a smart person taking a full bred ACD that I have $10k training and heritage in as a free pet.

I think GPS collars are the way to go.

I don’t view Jelly as a possession but I do understand my girl is desirable.

She made it home 30 minutes ago. Wife gave her a bath outside because she must have rolled in something dead.

She got her dinner and I’m pretty upset with her but I ain’t letting her know that I’m also very happy she’s home. Little punk as dog causing me grief on my day off!

Bella has been whining for her for the past 5 hours. She’s very happy Jelly is back. But had to be confirmed by 3-4 butt sniffs that is was indeed Jelly.

So so glad Jelly’s home safe and sound.

Years back my wife and I were working inthe front yard when a border collie walked up to us.

It had a tag on it's collar that said "Calvin is lost" and a phone number. Apparently he was a habitual escape artist.

I didn't realize gps trackers for pets have come down to such low prices, I think both my dogs will be wearing them soon.

My wife is softer on her than I am. It’s 6:30 and she’s down for the night. My wife, who doesn’t like dogs is all over her after the thought of losing her.

So how to the gps tracking for dogs work, battery life, and what companies are good with the service.

Years ago, my family's Boston would hear the kids at the high school across the street and run over there for tons of love and attention.

The first time, we heard that he would run down the halls getting attention from the students and even end up in a classroom or two.

The second time one of the students took him home w/ him and my brother just happened to be driving by that yard. Stopped and opened his car door.

They are lots of trouble.

That only tracks smart dogs so it wouldn't have worked for our Boston.

We have an air tag in Luna’s collar. She’s a known runner.

I know nothing about them. The one you posted seems good. I’ll have to read about them some more when I get some time off.

I have a tractive collar for my cat.

He ranges 6 miles a night and we recharge it when he comes in to sleep.

It's really too big for a cat, would be perfect for a dog.

I'm very happy with the app.

I wish the battery lasted longer. I figure we would get 2 days if we weren't tracking like 30 times a day.

Agree, both are good ideas, we have the Ring system, have to make sure the doggie part is active.

I put an AirTag on our Basset when she got older, before that we didn't worry about her wandering off when we let her out, but when she got old she'd wander around.
