Pressure cooker recommendation? Login/Join

My pressure cooker let out the smoke. Literally - pop and smoke. Smile

Anyway, looking for a recommendation for a replacement. My model was relatively basic - 6qt (but label inside indicating max of 12 cups (3qt ) of liquid) pressure cooker. This was a good size for us; a little bigger might be okay but may not need the capacity and may start to get to large on the counter.

Any make / model recommendations? Features to look for? Sounds like the popular brands include Ninja and Instant Pot. Looking for info to differentiate / tie break. First hand experience with both would be good.

?The All American is a pressure canner. The OP is asking for a pressure cooker?

I have the Insta Pot and it's fine. Good cooker. No complaints at all, it does something like 10 different programs, something like that. It just starts up, takes care of itself and does the task, no worries, no need to sit and watch it.

I do have a stove top old fashioned style pressure cooker, with the jiggly wiggly weight on top, but I don't like it much. It works fine, but I always feel like I have to be right by it to monitor it, producing enough steam but not too much. Of the two, I prefer the Insta Pot, just for the convenience. I can walk away and it will shut itself down when it's to do so.

We have a Pampered Chef Deluxe Multi Cooker and have no complaints. I like the way it can also be used as a slow cooker.

We have an Insta-Pot and it works fine. Cook roasts, ribs, tenderloin, etc. Super easy and quick. I can't complain.

We've been using an Insta-Pot for a couple of years. Friends just bought one after holding out, they really like it, cook different meals than us. I don't like pot roast, friend makes it, says it comes out great.

We have the Emeril insta pot/air fryer combo and it is a staple in our cooking. It runs daily for the past 2 years.

Thanks guys. Seems like the Instant Pot is popular. In doing some reading, I think I'm leaning toward Instant Pot over Ninja for at least 2 reasons:

1. Instant Pot SS pot vs Ninja coated (ceramic?) pot. SS seems more durable and troublefree.

2. Instant Pot seems lower power; Ninja requires higher power and worried about whether the line can handle it.

Leaning towards this Instant Pot 6qt Pro.

I'm all for buying made in USA products and the All American models sound nice however I'm looking for something that is simple, set it and forget it and then goes automatically into keep warm mode.

I was gifted an Insta-Pot and it works very well.

What's nice is the YouTube videos showing different ways to use it

We have 2 Instant pots (one small, one large) and a big All American pressure canner. For your stated purposes, the Instant Pot will work well.

The All American gets pulled out when we're canning (not very often) or making bone broth, and if that's what you wanted to do, it would be hard to beat. It is not, however, set and forget like the Instant Pot.

If memory serves(always a question), the Insta Pot is made in Canada. I have had mine for a bit over 1 year now, and don't even look at my pressure cookers(2 of them). Haven't used my Crock Pot either!! It gets the job done for me.

I’m old fashioned I guess. When my old 4-qt Mirro Matic stovetop pressure cooker died five years ago I bought a 4-liter Fagor stovetop pressure cooker. I have to admit that the SS Fagor is much better than the aluminium Mirro Matic. The gasket of the Mirro Matic had to be replaced frequently whereas I’m still using the original Fagor gasket.

The Fagor fits easily into my cupboard. Instapots wouldn’t. Pressure cookers are much less expensive than Instapots too.

We don't even have a dedicated pressure cooker anymore. After years of pooh-pooing Insta Pots my wife finally decided to give one a go. Wasn't overly impressed, at first, but kept at it. It finally earned a permanent spot in her array of kitchen tools. She loves it.

At some point she sent the pressure cooker off to the local donation store. "Don't need it, anymore," she said.

I have two Instant Pots, a six and an eight quart pro model.

8 qt. model has handles on the inner pot. 6 qt. one does not. I like the handles.

The sous vide function is spot on.

Crock pots are obsolete.

I dont have a InstaPot.
Instead I have 2 stove-top pressure cookers, which I use very frequently.
#1 is a French made T-Fal Sensor pressure cooker, which is 6.4 QT in size. I bought it in the summer of 1992, and it still works as good as new.
#2 is an American made Fagor SS pressure cooker, which is a maybe 12 QT size. It is a bit big, so it doesnt get used as much, only when I have guests over. It is a very high quality item, and I bought it at the local kitchenware store's going out of business sale for $70.00.

My Aunt got a Presto pressure cooker from Walmart in the 6 QT size. It works very well for her needs, but, unfortunately, I think it is a Chinese made product.

If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!!
