Went to the NRA museum today
Went with another forum member. I’ll let him post if he wants, I don’t like to put peoples happenings online. But he had a very nice family and I’ll have to meet em halfway for lunch one weeekend.

It’s an extremely nice building, I’ll have to inquire about their range before leaving here.

The thing that struck us both was the quality of wood on these guns.

The kids were begging to leave so I’ll have to make a solo trip another day to read everything and get more history out of the visit. But was fun nonetheless!

Nine years to retirement! Just waiting!

Very cool.

If you're ever in the Springfield, Missouri area, there's a smaller NRA firearms museum there, inside of the flagship Bass Pro Shop store - the NRA's "National Sporting Arms Museum".

It's smaller, with only ~1000 guns compared to the ~3000 at the National Firearms Museum you visited, but it has some cool stuff.

The NRA HQ range in Fairfax VA is actually pretty nice, clean, good air handling, friendly and competent RSO's. Distance limited, more suitable for pistols and carbines than long range rifles. There is a test (easy) to get a range card that is good forever. $20/lane, and you can shoot as long as you want if nobody is waiting. Ammo and targets available for sale, but no rental guns. Closed Tuesdays for club events. Overall, a very decent place to shoot.

I was living in Alexandria when the range first opened and my grandmother bought me an annual range membership for my b-day. Then I moved to Fairfax and was just across Lee Hwy. from the bldg. I shot there all the time. Man, I saw some nice hardware there. A local rep from SIG would show up sometimes with a wagon full of ammo and hand it out to people shooting SIGs at the range. Really great range.
