Thank you Very little ![]() |
Friend bought an ST, preowned, he loves it, hasn't had an issue yet and he's known to jump on the throttle other than that they look good, you'd need to know if your planned mods would mess with the warranty in any way..

This is all they require. No mileage, time, or payout limit. The oil changes just need to be done at an ASE certified shop and their service department has to inspect the vehicle once a year. No tunes allowed. I don’t plan to do anything to the motor aside from an intake and exhaust the rest will be suspension and differential support.
They are good at honoring it. My buddy bought a Silverado from them and blew the 6.2L before the recall and they replaced it with a brand new motor. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I bought a used, CPO, Escape from a huge multi-location Ford dealer. The vehicle had an extended warranty that covered just about everything other than normal replacement items like tires, battery, etc. It had frequent problems, including drive train problems. The dealer honored the warranty for everything, BUT, typical wait time to get it into the service department was on the order of ten weeks, and it was a hassle getting a free loaner, every time. It got to be such a pain in the ass that I dumped it and went into a leased LYRIQ, which is nine thousand times better in every respect. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

This Suburban we have now was a GM CPO and it saved us THOUSANDS. At first The dealer I got it serviced at gave me shit about buying it elsewhere and brining it to them for service. I quickly clapped back and reminded them that I tried to buy a vehicle from them but they had zero interest in assisting me because I was buying used and looking for a pretty specific combo and had to go out of state. The warranty from the 2 Ford dealers are not Ford warranties. They are from the dealer itself and cover all their used cars less than 9 years old and less than 80k miles. They don’t cover high end car like BMW, Mercedes, Volvos, etc and a few specific domestic models. And it is powertrain only. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. My buddy has a 2021 Explorer ST that he bought new and has 50k miles. Only issue he has had was the backup camera recall. He takes good care of it. He is looking to go to the SRT Durango so I am going to borrow it for a few days. The more I read the more I worry about the transmission issues. Buying from my buddy giving him what they offer in trade plus what he would save on the taxes if he traded in should still be a pretty good deal for me. This Explorer ST sure does seem pretty sweet but then I think of my Tundras proven reliability over 200k+ miles not so with the Explorer. We really need to replace my wife’s jalopy first. However we need the biggest SUV possible for that. The newer GMs are plagued with catastrophic engine failures and they just released a recall. So not too excited about getting one of those and I want nothing to do with cylinder deactivation. That leaves the Expedition which my wife does not like the interior of and I can’t exactly say I like it. The Navigator however has a much nicer interior. However the 2020 and 2021s seem to have Cam phaser and transmission issues (considering it is the same transmission as in the Explorer). Finding one from one of the local dealers that offers a lifetime powertrain is pretty much imperative. The Cam phaser is a repair (granted pretty involved) and not a replacement like the GM engine issues and the transmissions seem to be plentiful. Unlike the GM engines at the moment so even if I get a warranty on it we could be looking at months waiting for a motor. Probably the best bet is to keep my truck for a couple more years and get the Lexus TX550+ naturally aspirated V6 plug in hybrid. Two systems that Toyota/Lexus have pretty much perfected. It’s a 400+ hp 3 row SUV but front wheels bias and not really meant for performance driving. Vehicle shopping is always a tough decision and only gets worse when you have 3 boys and their buds to cart around all the time. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. We did cam phasers on our 2018 Expedition shortly after purchasing it. It's developed a 4th gear shifting oddity, but usually only happens once, and only when cold, and not every time. That said, it's been a solid truck. The new Expedition is just too ugly to consider, IMO The Enemy's gate is down.

I had a 2015 Expedition El prior to the Tundra. I liked it quite a bit. The newer models not so much. Now, kind of wish I never got rid of it. Got rid of it because there was zero off-road support for it. I went with the Tundra built it to offroad went a handful of times in a couple years and then life got too busy. I really like the Tundra a lot but it’s just a pavement princess anymore. But could be worse I guess. We’ll see if the ST fully and me over after I borrow my buddy’s for a few days. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I really liked my Limited, briefly considered a Platinum, but they weren't playing ball on trade value, and the $$$ 21" tires. My mom had a Platinum too, she got rid of hers for a new F150 Lariat. Our Expedition is a 2018 Max Limited 2wd. It's the family hauler & does it well. For me, I'd have the Explorer over the Expedition, but I prefer the sportier driving dynamics of the Exploder over the Exped. The Enemy's gate is down.

She’s in a Suburban, right? How much different, in terms of size, is the [previous generation] Toyota Sequoia? God bless America.

Length, quite a bit. The prior Sequoia would be closer to Tahoe sized The Enemy's gate is down.

When it comes to cargo room it’s substantial. If there was an extended wheel base Sequoia we’d be in one no doubt. We drove a couple Sequoias but there just is not enough room in the back for the boys all their stuff and their buddy’s stuff. Also including my wife’s stuff. Then when we travel we are full to the brim inside and we have a rooftop cargo carrier. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. My agency has had tons of issues with our Explorers (same 3.0 TT Ecoboost engine as the ST)... so much so that we refer to them as Ford Exploders, and are now switching over to Tahoes and Durangos (and the Durangos aren't much better). My explorer is at 75k miles, has had the transmission rebuilt, and is still having issues.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Unfortunately you will have no reprieve with the Tahoes. They are littered with problems as well. The main being catastrophic engine failure from dropped lifters which is a much larger problem than a transmission failure. Sadly it’s the way of the vehicle anymore with manufacturers being forced to abide by all these nonsensical emissions and gas mileage ratings. Look at Toyota they had the most reliable truck motor ever built and then went directly to a grenade that they ended up having to recall and replace every since engine. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Not just lifters either. In my office of about 40, we've had 4 with problems. 1 Tahoe Premier with lifter failure. Fixed under warranty. 3 with transmission issues. A field truck [Silverado] that was repaired, an older [2016] Silverado with borderline transmission failure & another Tahoe with erratic shifting. The Enemy's gate is down.

This rabbit hole continues! Turns out Lincoln has the Aviator that comes with a Plugin Hybrid paired to the 3.0L twin turbo boosting the numbers to just shy 500hp and 615 ft/lb of torque!!!! Great googly moogly. I also checked with my credit union and they offer an extended warranty for $2300 that covers everything but wear parts. All of the electronics, key fobs, seat heaters coolers etc. For 6 years and to 120k miles total mileage. I am looking at vehicles with around 50k miles. I do about 10k a year. This was for the Explorer ST. Not too bad. I need to check Aviator coverage For the fun of it I had them run numbers on a warranty for the 2018 Jaguar XF Sport Brake as I would really really really like one. 3 year 36k miles warranty on all non wear mechanicals, not electronic stuff for $3k. That’s not out of the question and only plan to keep it for 3 years. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have.
