Would you fly into space?

holdemWould you fly into space?
The discussion on the Titanic thread got me thinking. Lots of people on that thread saying they would never get in a submersible. Which I think most of us agree on. And a few saying they would not go into space, or board a cruise ship, etc, etc.
So, here is the scenario;
You have a free ride. There is no payment required. You can have your pick of companies; whether it is Virgin Galactic or Blue Origin for a short flight, or even NASA if you want to stay up there for a week. All training and expenses are covered. All you have to do is show up, complete any training, and take the risk of spaceflight.
Would you do it and why or why not?
Me, for a chance to see space, I'd be in 100%. Probably quite nervous and scared, but I would do it.

gearhoundsSure, why not? The safety record for launching into orbit and returning is very good so the risk would be worth it.

architectAbsolutely! Not that I would pass the medical. I also suspect there is a great deal of physical discomfort associated with such a trip, and I get exhausted these days making up my mind. But, just the opportunity to say to my fellow spacenauts, "hey, I think I can see my house from here," would be priceless.

P250UA5Even as a kid, I've loved spaceflight. But, never wanted to take the ride.
I wanted to work on getting them there, but didn't work out. I was ill-prepared for college & it wasn't to be.

Ryanp225It depends on what it all entailed.
A quick up and down to make someone a couple hundred grand richer for the trouble? No.
Go around the moon or something like that? Hell yes.

EdmondNo. I just don't see the joy in it viewing it from the inside of a space craft.

nhracecraftI 'might' launch with Space-X, but Virgin Galactic or Blue Origin...Nope!

PrefontaineNot with those companies, no thanks. NASA, maybe, given they go back up on their own, regularly, and demonstrated reliability. I view space like I view going into the ocean underwater. Not really my place. I’d take a F-18 ride in a heartbeat though.

Skins2881In a second with no thoughts about it. Hell strap me in a rickety Russian craft, I'll roll the dice for the opportunity.

I agree. If we’re taking off from land, I’d prefer an F-15E or F-16, but if a cat shot and arrested landing are part of the deal I’d choose the F-18.
