Well said. Yes, where did the money come from in the first place? Oh, from those of us who pay taxes.

nhtagmemberI think a more likely event would be to announce either a cut or suspension of withholding for a short time.

Ok, give everyone $1k a month, then shut down all forms of welfare. That’s about the only way it makes sense.
Do people know we have to borrow that $$ to give away? At some point the whole federal budget is taken to service borrowing, then what?
I know, people don’t like to think about that, carry on.
Yang was proposing if you took UBI, you couldn't get welfare. He also was going to use VAT to pay for it. I'm not saying I think it was a good idea, but he did try to in some way address concerns I doubt this newest proposal does. Tulsi is seizing on his idea to try to claw back some attention.

That's always been the under-reported/discussed portion of this whole UBI proposal: if money is dolled-out, then welfare and other gov assistance is eliminated. Keep in mind, Alaska with its Permanent Fund, is an example of how this could work...oil revenues get put into the fund, investments are made and dividends are paid-out to residents. Alaska natives with their own membership in their corporations also get a dividend thus, they get two yearly pay-outs.
And, yes Gabbard is desperately trying to remain relevant amongst the Dem shit-show.

maladatIt looks like, at least to some extent, Trump may be on board.

As the growing economic toll of the coronavirus became clearer, the White House said Tuesday that it supported the idea of sending cash payments directly to Americans.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the administration is talking to Congress about sending checks to Americans over the next two weeks to cushion the economic blow of the pandemic. “The president has instructed me we have to do this now,” he said at a briefing.

Can't have that! That would only help those who are already earning a paycheck and paying taxes. We are the bad guys. The point of these gov't. giveaways is to buy votes from those who don't do the paying.

That would help some, but not those who lost their jobs, or at least won't be getting a paycheck because they can't come to work and clock in.
