I've seen the commercial for this a couple of times now and I don't understand what the usefulness of the Crabwalk feature is. Can anybody explain? ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

Looks like it's to help with maneuvering around tight spaces. Some of our apparatus has something similar, although they call it rear wheel steer. Makes it much easier to move around corners and make tight turns.

It can be useful offroad if you are in a tight spot and need to maneuver around an obstacle. More realistically, it's an aid for those who never go offroad, but may occasionally need to parallel park, and otherwise suck at driving. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Crab walk and four wheel steering just make parking and turning easier. Much less turning radius. Crab walk into a parallel parking spot, cool See video GM pushed "quadrasteer' Hard about twenty years ago. It was cool but expensive

Makes it easier for bad drivers to continue to park poorly. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I used to have a Chevy Silverado with 4-wheel steer. Man it makes backing uo a trailer so easy. I wish I still had it but I got side swiped by a wrecker 7 years ago and it was totaled. The new Hummers have all wheel steer along with the Sierra. I would buy a new Hummer but its all electric and I have no use for an electric vehicle

I haven't seen this commercial, but I have a pretty good idea. It would be to parallel-park or maneuver in tight spaces. There would be less need for it if new trucks weren't so humungous and you could see out of them. Compare the latest GM (or any) trucks to ones from the 1990s and 2000s. Even without extended or crew cabs, these are positively dwarfed by new ones. And have they learned nothing from the "Quadrasteer" rear axles of the early 2000s? Few were sold, and of the ones remaining, you're screwed if it needs any repairs. Putting this added complexity on both ends of the truck takes it to eleven.

Really? You don't see how this would be a big help in parallel parking, especially in tight spaces? I live where there is a lot of street parking and often very tight and limited and this would be a huge help.

If you own a truck and can't parallel park I highly doubt you will be able to comprehend the learning curve required with 4 wheel steer.

More gimmick than anything. If someone can’t parallel park, they need more practice. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Ok, so you can parallel park easier. What about the guys in front and behind you? Unless they (unlikely) have the same feature, they are gonna hit you on the way out (for those who will npw park in tight spaces with a big truck where they ordinarily could not fit). I think it's the stupidest thing in trucks since truk nutz. Sure, a VERY small percentage of folks will benefit from the enhanced maneuverability, but it adds a LOT of complexity to the overall vehicle. All those moving parts are more stuff that can/will break. I feel the same about retractible running boards, auto-dim headlights, rain-sensing wipers, etc. . . I'll pass, I get the concern about tight parallel parking but...if you don't have the skills, then you shouldn't be driving it. Besides, it's another line-item in the repair bill that's four-digits large.

Crabwalk seems like the opposite of what I want for parallel parking. I've always wished for a tighter turning radius with my truck. A 60' turning radius and 176" wheelbase isn't exactly conducive to good parallel parking.

I have no use for a vehicle that can crab walk, but my eight year old son thinks it’s the coolest feature ever… “look dad, that’s the new Hummer. It can crab walk.”

How about this for a parallel parking feature? Be sure to stock up on tires: https://youtube.com/shorts/Uds...?si=rlSe0seoyoT55l4r "I'm yet another resource-consuming kid in an overpopulated planet raised to an alarming extent by Hollywood and Madison Avenue, poised with my cynical and alienated peers to take over the world when you're old and weak!" - Calvin, "Calvin & Hobbes"

I think it's automatic, uses sensors and what not There are already cars that do automatic parallel parking

Ok, I guess that I see the reasoning behind it. I also see more Cons than Pros in this thread. It strikes me as being a niche (expensive) sort of thing to have (I hope that it's an option). Along with the other naysayers I'm wondering if it would make wheel alignment more difficult (again expensive). ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

It is a feature that could be useful to some. I will freely admit I'm not real good at parallel parking any more. I may need to parallel park once a year. Not many places it is needed around here. It's feature that when you see it in a commercial you think you need it in real life, kinda for people like me. Unfortunately it's about $90,000 out of my price range.
