I don't need to build a new computer....I don't need to build a new computer....I don't need to build a new computer....Seriously.....I don't need to build a new computer.... But I want to lol My current rig I built back in 2017 at Ryzen launch. Specs are, 1700x overclocked on a Crosshair 6 hero with 16 gig 3200 memory and 2x 1080ti in sli, with watercooled cpu and vids And currently arguing with Win10... I can run every game I have on max settings playing on a 27" 2560x1440 monitor, easy peasy, don't even break a sweat. When I first built it, I had Win8.1 on it and it ran beautifully. Ever since I downgraded to 10 tho, It has been giving me issues. "Logic" and years of experience tells me my issues are not hardware related. And I have been doing my best to keep that in mind over the last two months-ish as I keep eyeballing all the shiny new hardware that I have almost hit the buy now button on several times and I REALLY don't need to buy. BUT....It's new and cool and I am a "enthusiast" I guess and I kinda want to build something new New being, 3900x on the Crosshair 8 hero with 32 gig 3600 memory and 2x 2080ti in sli. And still watercooled...obviously The "problem" tho, the price of course. Just shy of $4k And that is with reusing all my other parts. OUCH!!!! I really don't need to build a new computer. It is a pain to be me sometimes lol

And here I just splurged on a single 2060, still on a Core i7 7700. I may throw another 16 GB memory in. It's less than $80....

Hehe....every time I build something new I always keep a upgrade path in mind so I don't need to spend a ton of money on all new a few years later. Some how that never seems to actually work out lol. I keep tossing around just doing the cpu and another 16 gig on the memory. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper. The 1080ti in sli is kinda better than a single 2080ti for most of what I do so it really wouldn't be worth the upgrade that way, hence the sli again to make that upgrade worth it. But they are expensive for just "just because" and actually make up half of the all new build....but.....shiny new

Well, I was upgrading from a single 960. Really the best thing I ever did for performance was an SSD. That'll probably be the next things I do - upgrade from the 512 GB drive I've got to a newer 1 TB drive.

I'm 6 months into my i7 9700K + 2080 ti - it's fantastic. My favorite part is the case - Loque Ghost S1. I'm into Mini-ITX computers.

If you end up selling a 1080 let me know.... I just ordered a refurb Dell 5810 for the purposes of a security camera computer. I’m going to make a few upgrades. I think a 1080 will be better than the k2200 that is coming in it.

Woke up today.. Great day! |
I'd say most of my upgrades over the past 15 years have been because I WANTED not because I NEEDED. And I enjoy building computers.

All my upgrades over the years have been because I wanted to as well. I don't really need a upgrade but I do really enjoy the build process. What I have been doing in the past, whenever I built something new for my primary computer, the old parts would get reused as a upgrade for my second computer in my hobby room. That one is used for general putzing when I am working on someone elses computer or working on one of my various hobbies. That one is a dual boot setup with Win8 and XP as I have a couple old programs that won't run on a newer OS. Being that XP won't run on Ryzen, and 8 is kinda iffy at this point, this time around if I do a new primary, about the only thing I could transfer to the other one is one of the video cards. Which is really kind of a waste for that, so selling the current stuff would probably be what I would end up doing. And I guess that would kinda help offset the cost of the new stuff so their is that at least lol. I will say tho, if the 2080ti wasn't so dang expensive I would probably already have everything ordered and done without a second thought. I don't mind spending money on cool new PC parts but dang, $4k is a lot of money. Even more so when you consider that I only have around $2k or so in my current setup.

I just received a new Dell Precision 5540 workstation with Xeon and 32 GB ram. Works just slow enough for me. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

I haven't built a new machine in over 5 years. What I have is trucking along nicely. Now rifles..."I really don't need to build a new rifle, especially 6.5 Creedmor" -------------------------------------------- Floridian by birth, Seminole by the grace of God

Most Video Mgmt Software packages run much better utilizing On-Processor Graphics (specifically Intel), as the onboard video subsystem of the Core i5/i7 Processors is much faster at encoding multiple camera video streams. You're better off NOT going the separate Video/Graphics card route for a dedicated machine in that application. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Interesting, and perhaps unfortunate. The machine I have on the way has a Xeon processor. Don’t those have no integrated video?

Well shoot.....the place I was looking at the video cards through.....well they just had to go and offer a store card with 12 months interest free....dangitall So apparently I am actually building a new computer that I really don't need to build....hmmm, oh well everything should be here by Friday. I guess I know where the .gov money will be going if that ever shows up
