Officer Darren Weathers, recently awarded the Medal of Valor by the Detroit Police department for saving his partners life & having less than two years on the force, was killed today in a car accident during a surveillance training exercise. An Afghanistan veteran he was also profiled recently on local news after video of him playing with and encouraging kids went viral.

Clearly a young officer, doing it right, really making a difference, tragically lost.

I did have to smile a little watching the video where he interacted w/ the kids. Maybe a few of them might step up and fill Darren's shoes someday.

Such a shame to lose a fine young officer. Detroit needs more of such character.
