I bought this Grill Brush and Scraper Bristle Free – Safe BBQ Brush for Grill . It doesn't have bristles but coils.

I heat the grill to 400°F, scrape with the wood scraper, dunk the brush in water, and brush the grills. When I'm done with the top, I flip the grates overs and repeat.

When I do deep cleaning and it's cooled down, I use citrus safe and the plastic bristle brush. I may be overboard, but I also use a scrubber pad with the citrus safe and rinse with a hose afterwards.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I've recently purchased the same. It is really overkill with all those coils. They could have had just one row. But it works fine, no complaints.

If the grates are small enough, I’ve been know to put them in the oven and running a cleaning cycle. Propane and Charcoal are expensive. I can’t tell you how many times I left the gas grill on to burn off the grates and emptied the bottle because I forgot. At least charcoal is self limiting.

For the larger grates, the 26” Weber Kettle for example, I’ve been thinking of getting a plastic water heater pan, some oven cleaner and letting it soak.

I use a Weber brush for day to day cleaning and grill bricks I bought on Amazon. They're recycled plastic and do an amazing job of taking any crud off and you do have to wipe the residue off. Only to be used on cold grates.

I've been using a Cave Tools Grill Scraper for about five years.
It has different shapes/depths cutouts; one of the shapes will work with whatever grill grate you have.
It does a good job and there are no wire bristles to worry about.
