Been using it for years now.
While I agree that knives & guns are tools, just like my woodworking & automotive tools I take care of what I own.
I don't like scratches or rust.
Can't stop the scratches from happening if you use your "tools" but Winter gives me plenty of time to touch up the things in my safe.
