Tundra is getting a complete sound system overhaul. What songs to really show off what it can do??
2014 Toyota Tundra with the JBL Sound System just really does not sound all that great. I have sound deadened the cab and swapped the 8” paper sub to an 8” Alpine sub in the factory enclosure. It made a small difference for $150. Still was not happy. But the JBL system and it’s proprietary wiring and speaker setup really calls for a complete replacement including headunit and a bunch of installation components to integrate the wiring and speakers. As aftermarket speakers don’t play well with the factory head unit and aftermarket head units don’t really play well. They work but the sound is just never great.
The 2014 JBL headunit is outdated on the maps and their entune apps suck so I do everything on my phone which is a pain. I have Apple CarPlay in the company truck and that has spoiled me. So I’ve wanted a new headunit which is not terrible in cost but having to do amps and speakers was really going to push the cost WAY up.
Well, I picked up a little side hustle and my main employer thought a COVID bonus was a good idea. All that paired with some killer Black Friday deals I decided to bite the bullet and do it right.
Found a fella that is tops when it comes to audio setups in the Tundras.
So the final setup is as follows:

Sony XAV-AV8100 headunit. I found a company that prewires all the necessary installation integration components needed to adapt it to the JBL wiring. While I could do it this saves me a couple hours on the bench and the Black Friday Price was cheaper than what I could piece together on my own. The price jumped a couple hundred bucks after BF so thankfully I paid much less than the current price.

Then on to the rest from James Randy Taylor

https://shop.tech12volts.com/

The Dash Corners are AudioFrog GS25s
The Dash Centers are 2 Hertz dt24.3s in a custom bracket
The doors are Hertz dsc 170.3 components
2 Kenwood Excelon 10” subs in a custom ported box to fit behind the Tundra rear seats

All to be powered by an ArcAudio X2 850.5 amplifier.
Also got a custom Amp rack to fit under the front seat where the current JBL amp is.

Probably be well into February before I get it all installed.
Will be doing it in stages as I won’t have time to do it all at once.
Though there is a forum member who is currently building one heck of a garage and has offered to let me do the install there (since all my shop space is full) I may just take a day off of work just to install the thing.

So looking for some great songs to really showcase the system.

Also to use as a baseline on how each step improves the sound.

I have the Metallica S&M Concert on DVD and The Crystal Method Legion of Boom album in DTS DVD Audio so those should be pretty good.

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Very strong bass to mid tones to high notes. I've used it for every audio upgrade I've made for 30 years. Considering the time of year, the Nutcracker would a good one as well.

Had a buddy back in the late 90s who had a GMC typhoon with an insane sound system. When he played this, girls in the backseat had their hair levitated to 90 degrees.

Van Halen: Runnin' with the Devil (bass opening is magnificent).
Metallica: Enter Sandman.
AC/DC: Hells Bells.
Alice in Chains: Man in the Box.
Rush: Temples of Syrinx (2112 album - TRUST ME ON THIS ONE).

I have terrible tennitis from too much of this when I was young in the late 1980s. So, be careful.

I envy you.
