Does anyone eat pumpkin?
I recently bought some roasted and salted pumpkin seeds, which I really enjoy. But I don't believe I've ever eaten pumpkin. I am aware of pumpkin pie, and I think I've seen canned pumpkin. Do many people eat pumpkin? Are the seeds harvested from eating pumpkins, or are they grown just for the seeds? Just curious.Do you eat pumpkin?Never-pumpkins are for halloween. On rare occasions, pumpkin pie.All the time; you don't know what you're missing.

It's the traditional Cinderella tale except at midnight her vagina changed into a pumpkin instead of her carriage.

She met Prince Charming, had a wonderful time at the ball, but it was 30 seconds to midnight.

Her: Look, I've gotta run now but I didn't get your name.
Him: I'm Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.
Her: Well... maybe just one more dance...

I hate pumpkin pie, but my wife has made some kind of pumpkin dish with sausage that you cook in the oven, and it was pretty damn good!

Pumpkin bread is pretty good, too.

Pumpkin pie is my #2--chocolate meringue is #1.

I have eaten it (canned), with butter, salt, and pepper. I like it, along with a crustless pumpkin pie, when I'm feeling lazy. You can also can make some very good cream based soups with it, and pasta type sauces too. I have raised cooking pumpkins, and it is a lot of work to get to the final product FWIW.

BTW, if you think roasted Pumpkin seeds are great (they are), try roasting some Butternut squash seeds... Even better.

Canned pumpkin is not really pumpkin, it's squash. Pumpkin is very stringy.

My Mom used to make really good pumpkin bread, and I have her recipe.

BTW, I actually like pumpkin pie but I'm unable to resist posting the poopin' pumpkin meme.

I don't eat pumpkin pie, but as far as I know small pumpkins are used to make pie and not the kind you carve for a jack o' lantern. When I do carve a pumpkin, I do take out the seeds and roast them. I do like roasted pumpkin seeds.

In my experience, which is limited due to lack of success, cooking with fresh real pumpkin is more difficult than you would think. The first problem is that most pumpkins have been grown for carving so those are to be avoided. For eating you need smaller pumpkins that are less fibrous and less woody. Not just a smaller carving pumpkin but an 'eating' pumpkin. Growing your own is probably best.

Looking at John Scheepers Seed Catalog, these look like good prospects.

New England Pie Pumpkin
Fairytale Pumpkin

And for impressing the neighborhood, not eating, Dill's Atlantic Giant Pumpkin... 300~500 pounds.

Another factor is prepping for cooking. Use a very sharp and heavy cleaver with a sturdy wooden cutting board. Keep your fingers well away from the blade edge. You really need to be careful. I had a go at soup, bread, and mashed.

In sum, I did not find the reward to be worth the effort.

If you start with the right seeds then it might pay off.

Pumpkin pie can be made completely without pumpkins. Most any orange squash will do. The spice is what makes the pumpkin pie, the rest is just "filler".
