MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An off-duty police officer shot two male juveniles early Monday when they attempted to rob the 7-Eleven store at Williamsport Pike and Berkeley Station Road north of Martinsburg, police said.
The juveniles, who were flown to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., were in stable condition, Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller said Monday afternoon.
The clerk in the store at 1754 Williamsport Pike, and the off-duty officer, were not injured in the incident, which was reported at 4:37 a.m., police and emergency officials said.
The off-duty officer, who was a patron in the store, was not identified by the sheriff pending an investigation by the law enforcement agency that employs him. The officer does not work for a law enforcement agency in Berkeley County, Keller said.
According to preliminary information compiled about the incident, the juveniles pointed what appeared to be firearms at the clerk and the off-duty officer, who was on his way to work, and demanded money, police said.
After identifying himself as a law enforcement officer, the juveniles made a turn toward him and the officer fired his weapon, shooting both juveniles, police said.
One of the suspects fled from the store, but was found a short distance away at a storage facility by sheriff’s deputies, Keller said.
The other suspect was detained in the store by the off-duty officer until sheriff’s deputies arrived, police said.
The age and residence of the juveniles, who were initially taken to Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg and then flown for treatment to the other hospitals, was not disclosed by the sheriff.
The 7-Eleven is north of Martinsburg along what also is known as U.S. 11. Anyone with information can contact Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy R.L. Steerman Jr. at 304-267-7000 or Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-267--4999.

Agree. Rubber tomatoes turn the yellow dishwasher upside down.

gearhoundsAbout 5 miles from the house. That particular 7/11 is a hotbed for creeping, moping, and tons of drug activity.
